Loesche wins order for supply of Coal Milling and Drying system for Korea’s first IGCC demon-stration plant project
In March 2012, Loesche signed a contract with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction for the supply of two Loesche coal mills type LM 43.4 D for the coal-based integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant (1 x 300 MW, net) to be built in Taean, South Korea.
The scope of supply comprises the complete equip-ment from the raw coal feeding system to the product bag filter, including the Loesche grinding mills and Loe-sche hot gas generators, flaps, fans, electrical drives, and Loesche automation system.
The throughput of the Loesche four roller grinding mill type LM 43.4 D amounts to 95 t/h coal with additives (dry-base) based on the fineness of 10 % residue on 90 microns sieve. In this case the Loesche coal mill type LM 43.4 D simultaneously grinds, dries, and classifies a mixture of coal and additives with more than 25 % moisture. The mill main drive power rating amounts to 1,600 kW.

The required process heat is provided by Loesche hot gas generators type LF 36 with a maximum heat ca-pacity of 25 MW per each mill. The hot gas generator is operated with synthesis gas and natural gas.
Loesche’s expertise and experience in the field of self-inert coal grinding plants was, amongst other Loesche advantages, one of the decisive reasons for Doosan to select Loesche vertical roller mills for coal grinding in the gasification industry. Self-inert grinding plants, which are mainly operated in the steel and iron indus-try, utilise recirculated gases occurring in the installa-tion system itself. Up to now Loesche has sold more than 60 coal mills for self-inert coal grinding plants.
The IGCC technology is a high-efficiency process whereby a synthetic gas consisting primarily of hydro-gen and carbon monoxide is extracted from coal and
used as fuel to generate electricity. This gasification technique is such an extremely advanced technology that there are currently only a few demonstration plants in operation worldwide.
In 1990, Loesche supplied the first coal grinding plant for an IGCC power plant in Buggenum, Netherlands. The scope of supply included all required equipment from the raw material feed to the product bag filter. With its vast experience Loesche is the first choice for new coal gasification projects all over the world.
Complete delivery FOB North-sea port is scheduled for May 2013 and commissioning is scheduled for the first half of 2014.
