Idents

Why are Idents important?The Idents are important because they show the logo of the brand of the TV channel and the Ident also shows you the personality of the TV channel.

How are they enhanced by motion graphics/compositing?They use motion graphics in Idents to make it more memorable for the viewer.The compositing gives the viewer more information.

What design choices must be considered?

Colour

Colour is important in a Ident because the colour combination is more recognisable, like for example if you would watch the E4 Ident with out the E4 logo you would still recognise it as E4 because colour combination of purple and white give the E4 Ident its identity .

Typography

It’s important to have a different font for your logo than to any other logos. It is also important to have the same font for any other additional text to the Logos font to tell they are apart of the other idents.

Graphics

They us graphic in Idents to make the Ident more exciting for the viewers, which make them remember the Ident and brand more easily.

Movement

Movement is use to show the viewer all the different aspects of the Ident and it shows the information in more detail. Movement also can set the tone and speed of the TV programmes.

Visual Effects

The visual effects makes the Ident more interesting and more remember able. It also make the Ident more unique.

BBC One have used a similar ident over the years. BBC Ones ident is made up of something making up a O to resemble the O in One. The BBC only changed the way that the O was formed.

BBC Two followed a similar pattern to BBC One as in the keep a similar shape thought out the years. BBC Twos ident is made up by them showing the number 2 on different objects and in different shapes.

ITV

itv’s ident was pretty basic in 2003, it was just some of the stares sitting or standing in a blue and yellow room will the TV channels logo appeared on the screen. The new itv idents are not much better it’s just some scenery shot where something is painted yellow will the logo is on the screen.

E4

E4’s ident was just the logo appeared o0n the screen while people watched TV with a band in the back ground or it was just the logo in different angles and shots. E4’s ident now are quite different, the new E4 idents are filmed in any location where random things happen like for example in a living room grass comes out of the firer place while a sheep is in the living room. In a matter of fact the only thin the idents have in common are the logo and the colour. Each E4 ident has the colour purple in the video and the logo is made of different things like cardboard boxes or spray paint.
