Government examples of successful IBM asset management

SMART ISOptimizing asset utilization and cutting costs by $89,232 while improving workforce productivity

Warner Robins Air Logistics Center: Implemented IBM Asset Management software that links maintenance schedules to parts and vehicle inventories, enabling staff to track and report on maintenance efforts. Eliminated five stovepipe legacy systems; improved decision making because of new visibility and data access for users and customers; cut costs by $89,232.

SMART ISMeeting government regulations and ensuring customer satisfaction

Chugach Alaska: Using IBM Asset Management CAC established a common platform for end to end tracking and managing all government and nongovernment contracts and the lifecycle of each asset. The new capabilities meet federal property-management requirements as well as the client’s contractual obligations and internal requirements.

SMART ISCities preventing problems before they occur with coordinated response.

District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC WASA): Integrate advanced analytics with asset management software and a mapping application from ESRI. The availability of real time, map-based information and geo-analytics allows DC WASA engineers to identify potential problems before they occur with an estimated ROI of 629% and annual benefit of $6,559,000.

SMART ISCity leaders gain visibility into enterprise-wide assets and service.

Corpus Christi, Texas: Improved the efficiency and quality of the services by improving the city's ability to manage 1,500 miles of water mains, 1,100 miles of streets, six water treatment plants and 1,250 miles of wastewater gravity mains. New insight into operations has enabled staff to identify patterns of asset mal-functions, institute preventative measures and prevent service interruptions.

By 2025, buildings will be the #1 consumer of energy.

Up to 50% of energy and water in buildings are often wasted.

Data center energy use doubling every 5 years.

Real estate is the 2nd largest expense on the income statement.

Multiple Building Management Systems often in use.

No real-time energy and operational optimization, only reaction after the fact

Challenges for efficiency in government buildings
