STEP 1. Find out the memory (RAM) capacity installed on your system. See how you can do it:-

1. Click “Start” & then click on the “Control Panel” option.

2. Under the “System and Maintenance” option, click on the “System”. Now see below Memory (RAM), find out the amount of RAM installed in the machine.

STEP 2.

Expand the virtual memory installed in your system:

1. Click “Start” & then click on the “Control Panel” option.

2. Double click on the “System and maintenance” option and then click on the “System”.

3. On the left hand side menu, you can click on the “Advanced System Settings” option. Type the necessary credentials when you are prompted to enter administrator password.

4. Click on the Advanced tab.

5. Go to the “Performance” section and click on the “Settings”.

6. Click on the Advanced tab.

7. Now look for the “Virtual Memory” and click on the “Change” option.

8. Make sure to uncheck the checkbox named as “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”.

9. Click on the drive that has contained paging file you wish to change under Drive [Volume Label].

10. Click on the “Customize size”.

11. Now you can change the “Initial Size” and “Maximum Size” text boxes. Remember the size of the text boxes will be in megabytes.

12. Click “Set” and then “OK”.

STEP 3. Continue working on your system with increased virtual memory size.

Microsoft Windows 7 sets up the initial minimum paging file size equivalent to the RAM (amount of the virtual memory) plus 300MB on your system and the maximum size ranges up to 3 times the total memory (RAM).
