Introduction to UniSVR and

HermesDDS

UniSVR is a software-oriented system company located in HsinChu Science Park in

Taiwan. UniSVR has dedicated many years in researching and developing, invented a

unique software platform, UniArgus Network-of-Device Platform (or UA NoD

Platform). Many different products are derived from this platform.

UA NoD Platform consists of an application-level software engine and many modules

with real-time multi-tasking and multi-thread processing capability so that the target

application systems can create a private cloud environment and provide:

Connecting and managing large number of devices of various types, different

brands and models through local area network

Page 6: HermesDDS reference manual for oem customers v.1.2

Real-time information capturing (from the devices), processing, storing and

dispatching to other devices and authorized clients (UA NoD Platform is

particularly fine tuned to handle large number of live-video streams from

many sources to many users)

Event-Action Sequencing Module (EME, Event Message Exchange)

Real time event notification

Vital and useful management features on clients and on devices

With more than a decade experience in UA NoD platform, UniSVR has deep

know-how on how to build a stable large system for private cloud service.

HermesDDS, Hermes Device Directory Service, is another cloud service provided by

UniSVR based on UA NoD experience. It helps users connect and share devices via

Internet. HermesDDS software transforms an offline device into a

“HermesDDS-ready device”, which means the device is recognizable and

connectable under HermesDDS service. UniSVR has developed a large variety of

HermesDDS software that supports different kind of electronic device such as

Android mobile phone. The software as an application service makes users’ day to

day life much more convenient. Users can share and remote control their electronic

devices from another location. UniSVR is still in progress of developing more

software to be capable of more electronic devices.

HermesDDS Opportunity

The world is now highly demanding cloud service, as the number of smart devices is

increasing drastically and the Internet coverage is expanding. Smart devices can be in

different forms, and no longer limited to computers, smart phones or tablets.

Broadband Internet speed is getting faster and faster; mobile Internet is getting more

and more stable. This means the Internet environment is mature enough to support

connecting devices through Internet.

Marketing Trend

Figure 1 shows the number of smart phone subscription, percentage of smart phone

to mobile phone subscription and smart phone subscription growth in thirty

countries.

Figure 1 Smartphone global subscription statistics (Source: 2013 Internet Trends,

http://www.kpcb.com/insights/2013-internet-trends)

Smart phones are becoming more and more popular and it is not stopping. The

Page 8: HermesDDS reference manual for oem customers v.1.2

UniSVR Global Information Technology Corp. 7

rate of growth is faster than when television first came out. Figure 2 shows the

technology cycle is becoming shorter. And besides smart phones, there are many

forms of devices that can go “online”. Devices can come in many forms such as

wearable computers, wearable sensors, flyable computers, drivable computers and

beyond.

Figure 2 Technology cycles over last 70 years (Source: 2013 Internet Trends,

http://www.kpcb.com/insights/2013-internet-trends)

The hardware is developing quickly and transforming to the forms that we did not

use to imagine. Internet is improving at a speed that allows massive data flow around

the world. Figure 3 shows the number of Internet users is increasing, some country

such as Iran, the growth is more than double in a year. Using Internet is almost a

daily activity to a lot of people.

Page 9: HermesDDS reference manual for oem customers v.1.2

UniSVR Global Information Technology Corp. 8

Figure 3 Statistics of Internet users (Source: 2013 Internet Trends,

http://www.kpcb.com/insights/2013-internet-trends)

Moreover, mobile Internet is getting better. Forty-five percent of the world’s

population is now covered by a 3G mobile network (required for fast mobile Internet

access), according to the ITU (2011). 3G networks have been launched in 159

countries. Some countries such as Sweden, Norway, Ukraine and United States are

already moving to 4G. Ericsson (June 2012) forecasts that, by 2017, 85 percent of

the world’s population will be covered by high-speed mobile networks.

The WiFi environment is very advanced and suitable to make the world “connected”.

The demand is surpassingly increasing and the environment is very practical. The

market is at its highest potential now and the time to act is now.

All these trends, together with our HermesDDS capability and evolution, construct

fundamentals of the Internet of Things. Please refer to Figure 4, we can find the road

map of the Internet of Things is toward “ability to monitor and control distant objects”

(upper-rightmost block), which ability has been shown in our HermesDDS demo

channel (P. 13, UShow experience).

In Depth about HermesDDS

Private Cloud System Solution (PCSS)

UniSVR has proposed and implemented an integrated Private Cloud System Solution

(PCSS) that includes eight system building blocks (SBB):

1. Network Equipment (NTE)

2. Broadband Internet Service (BIS)

3. Client Display Device (CDD)

4. Network Edge Device (NED)

5. Server Device

6. Gateway Device

7. Client Application Software (CAS)

8. HermesDDS Service

The first four SBBs are user’s infrastructures and devices. The last four ones are

provided by UniSVR. Among the last four, Server Device, Gateway Device and Client

Application Software encapsulate our unique HermesDDS software components; and

HermesDDS service handles communication and connection services behind the

scene. Each SBB cooperate with other ones to maximize its function and to satisfy

user’s need.

Four Services in HermesDDS

The core of HermesDDS is doing device directory service. Devices include the

Gateway Device and the Server Device as described in PCSS Framework. Device

registered with HermesDDS service is often referred to as HermesDDS Device or

HermesDDS cloud-ready device. HermesDDS provides four services: Member and

Device registration service, Member and device directory service, within-the-net

service and across-the-net service.

1. The Member and Device Registration Service

New users are invited to join our free membership to experience our service.

New membership registration requires an active e-mail account and a password.

Page 12: HermesDDS reference manual for oem customers v.1.2

UniSVR Global Information Technology Corp. 11

A registered member can register his/her devices (either Server Device or

Gateway Device) with the service. The registered device usually refers to as

HermesDDS device.

Registered members can use our service through using other member’s sharing

device (general user) or register his/her device (device administrator) for

personal use or share to other members. Members can build contact with

other members on our application panel or Android app’s contact list.

Standard digital electronic products in the market are not designed for

HermesDD Service (and not for used over Internet in most cases). These

products will need UniSVR’s Gateway Devices, either hardware or software, to

be used with HermesDDS Service.

2. The Member and Device Directory Service

Member and device directory service allows users to track the online status of

their contacts and the accessibility of their HermesDDS devices. Unlike other

service providers, UniSVR does not require to input the IP address of the

HermesDDS device nor the contact. With the device directory service, devices

are automatically searched and connected, the user can just use them.

3. Within-the-Net Service

Within-the-net service refers to the service within a local area network (LAN).

Member can access an online HermesDDS device or contact within the same

LAN, and it is completely free.

4. Across-the-Net Service

Across-the-net service refers to the service crossing over the LAN and all over

Internet. Across-the-Net Service supports following application scenarios:

Member can connect to device from other network

Member can connect to shared HermesDDS device from other network

Gateway Devices can connect to Server Devices from other network
