gridComm Pte LtdEnabling Reliable “Smart Grid” with Smart Power Line Communications
Overview
SMART GRIDSare a modern way of managing power resources, making cities more efficient than ever
The Need
Manage power supply and remotely regulate street lighting and public utilities
Give homes better visibility and control over their power usage by linking to smart appliances
All this control and information can be fed into a centralized system
2008
• Semitech provides the chips that enable comm over the power grid, connecting utilities to power consumers.
2012
• gridComm formed to create reference module hardware and adaptive network software to enable communications to monitor power utilities, including digital electric meters.
2014
• gridComm creates turnkey solutions and end-to-end systems that regulate, monitor and control power usage over an entire smart grid. Lighting management software & hardware used in key projects.

Commercialization
Growth Potential
• Electrical network operates with largely unfiltered grid, opening the possibility of electrical noise
• Traditional solutions use that use power lines for communications use only a single fixed frequency for data.
The Problem with Power Lines
Technology
• On unflitered power lines, devices plugged into the grid make electrical noise
• This noise makes it very difficult to use power lines for transmitting data and communication.
The Problem with Power Lines
Technology
• gridComm chips transmit using 18 independent channels of frequencies configurable real-time over power lines with adaptive network software
The Solution with Power Lines
Technology
• When there is noise on one channel, the chips dynamically adjust to use one of the other available channels automatically

Company Profile
Management Team
• Partnered with Meijixing to provide Streetlights Power Module with Metering and PLC functions including Back-end Management software for Smart City PLC Street Lights projects in Guangxi province, Nanjing, Tianjin, Zhuzhou and Guangzhou etc.
• Installed 100 smart LED and HID street lights at CAEXPO center, an iconic trade center in Nanning.
• World’s only digital street lighting power supply all
linked to a concentrator module in the area• Controls accessible
from software at a central computer
gridComm Case Study: Street Lighting Project
Meijixing PLC Lighting Module
• Partnered with Zhongshan FullSeas to provide system that allowed meters and concentrators to relay information over power lines back to a central computer.
• Successful field trial done in difficult sites in Zhuhai city where competitive solutions failed. Pilot deployment in planning.
• Meter modules all linked to a concentrator module in the area
• Information transmittedvia Ethernet/cellular network toa central computer

gridComm Case Study: Electric Meter Project
Zhongshan FullSeas Grid
• Partnered with Shanghai Meshall Lights PLC to rig the Oriental Pearl TV Tower with a remote controlled lighting system
• Because it was a broadcast tower sensitive to transmissions, wireless communications control was not possible
• Gridcomm’s system allowed client to control lighting by utilising the existing electrical wiring to the lights.
