GREENSPACES CHALLENGE – CALL TO ACTION

GreenSpaces‟s mission is to achieve energy savings by reshaping the way

commercial buildings are designed & built

It will demonstrate that the energy footprint can be economically reduced

from 40% to 10% of global energy usage, and serve as a model for all

buildings

Today‟s technologies can cost effectively achieve these energy savings but

is yet to be discovered

The GreenSpaces Challenge invites creative and innovative ideas,

products or services that will reduce cost and /or improve energy efficiency

Join us in this global challenge to bring about changes that will make a

difference. Join the conversation that will change the way future buildings

are built, and help preserve the earth

Best of the class ideas or solutions will be showcased in the flagship

project. For detailed information visit www.greenspaces.in/challenge

INCENTIVE TO WINNING PARTICIPANTS

• Winners will become Technology partners of GreenSpaces for name and fame.

• As a “Flagship Project” for the Asia-Pacific Partnership (APP), Building and ApplianceTask Force (BATF) on Clean Development and Climate, successful technologypartners will be team members with an impressive and respected community ofprofessionals known worldwide

• „Flagship‟ means projects & activities that illustrate and demonstrate the vision andobjectives of the APP Partnership. The portfolio includes a full range of actionsintended by the Partnership – technology research & development, pilot projects, demonstration & deployment activities, skill enhancement and best practicedissemination www.asiapacificpartnership.org

• APP is a non-treaty agreement between Australia, Canada, India, Japan, China,South Korea, & USA working towards energy security, air pollution reduction &climate change mitigation to promote sustainable economic growth & povertyreduction

• Buildings and Appliances Task Force (BATF) is one of the 8 public-private sector taskforces of the Partnership. BATF promotes best practices and demonstratestechnologies & building design principles that increase energy efficiency

PROJECT VISION

• Buildings account for 40% of all energy used by humans on the

planet

• Energy demand is set to increase by 30% in the next 10 years

• 60% of humanity will be living in cities in the next 15 years

• There is a growing preference for working and living in healthy &

safe air-conditioned spaces

• By reducing the amount of energy used in buildings on the demand

side, and generating & using renewable energy, one can significantly

reduce carbon emissions, and earn carbon credits

• GreenSpaces will be meaningful for society, as it will demonstrate

that it is possible to reduce our energy footprint from 40% to 10%

while improving the productivity & health of occupants

Page 8: GreenSpaces Challenge

PROJECT VISION

• Although GreenSpaces is a commercial development, the proposed

Ideas, Innovation and Lifestyle changes are applicable and

replicable in Retail, Hotels, Homes or in any other building,

anywhere in the world

• It is a Cleantech /Greentech /IT application to buildings

• Is a world class project partnered with world class research labs &

companies

• GreenSpaces Project costs, excluding land, is US$ 162MM

• The civil & MEP costs are about 50-50

• The MEP costs for this project are 58% higher than for a standard „A‟

class building, with a pay back period of 6 years on added costs

• The CO2 savings per year are 36,000 tonnes on the demand side

• The above costs need to be reduced

Page 9: GreenSpaces Challenge

Flagship Project

Number: BATF-08-49

IT/ITeS Special Economic Zone, Delhi NCR, India greenspaces

PROJECT VISION

• Energy savings per year are 41MM kWh (74.4% over standard „A‟

class building)

• Energy savings needs improvement

• Onsite renewable energy production is expected to be 1.6 MM kWh

per year from PV, Bio reactors, Regenerative elevators, etc. This

needs to be increased

• Energy saving lifestyle changes such as no jackets & ties in the

summer, ventilated back & bottom ergonomic chairs, variable height

tables, individual workspace temperature controls

• Provision for a healthy & safe work place using natural bio-filtered

indoor air that is of better quality than the ambient air

• The project seeks ideas for healthy living & being happy working

indoors

• Interiors that provide comfort & well-being for inhabitants

Page 10: GreenSpaces Challenge

PROJECT VISION

• Healthy food & happy living, outstanding air quality, reduction &

recycling of waste, zero water discharge, reduction of water

usage, availability of quality of drinking water, use of geo-thermal

energy, vertical gardens, maintaining natural habitat for birds &

enhancing the environment from Ornithological perspective using

local biodiversity, energy conservation on demand side, onsite

production of renewable energy, use of non carbon energy such

as hydro-electric power & wind energy, meeting International

specification & standards in regard to ventilation, lighting,

temperature, air conditioning, fire & safety, with a full range of

services such as crèche, medical, exercise, green data center,

shopping, food courts, recreation, education & training,

conferencing, are the key words for GreenSpaces for creating a
