What is the Great Barrier Reef

The great barrier REEF is the biggest living thing in the world. Scientist say that the reef is visible from space. But none of the astronauts calm to see the Great barrier Reef from space. It is located in Queenstown, Australia. The Great Barrier reef is a natural wonder of the world.

In the chart shown above the most amount of species that live the reef are the Mollusc and shellfish also the second most amount of species that live in the reef are the Marine fish. The lowest amount of species that live the Great Barrier Reef are the Sea Turtle and the Sea Snakes.

In the GREAT BARRIER REEF there are animals that live in it. There are 6 species of turtles, 200 species of birds, 125 species of sharks, 600 species of echinoderms, 1500 species of marine fish, 30 species of whales and dolphins, 14 species of sea snake, 500 species of seaweed, 4000 species of mollusc and shellfish, 400 species of coral and 60 species of sea grass.

HistoryThe aboriginal people already knew about the reef before James Cook told everyone about it. The reef may of started forming 20 million years ago, about the time of the last ice age. The reason the Great Barrier Reef got found is because James Cook got shipwreck by hitting the edge of the reef that`s shallow. aboriginal people
