DESIGNThe Roku Stick is still, as the name suggests, a stick: a purple rectangle, 3.1 x 1.1 inches, with rounded corners,that plugs into an HDMI port. If it doesn't fit due to its width or length, that's just tough cookies; you'll need theincluded adapter.

The latest Chromecast now features a circular design with a 2-inch diameter and a flexible HDMI cord. Once thecord is in place, the rest of the device attaches to it with a magnet. (The magnet is reportedly neither big norpowerful enough to have an adverse effect on a TV or an HDMI port.)


SETUP

For the Roku Stick, plug it in, hook it up to aWi-Fi network, then use a phone or computerto link it to your account. If you don't have aRoku account, you'll need to make one, whichcould take a few minutes. From there, you canpick a few extra apps to install from the get-go,and after a few app software updates, you'redone.


SETUPSetting up a Chromecast requires simplyplugging it in, turning on your TV, then usingyour phone or computer to pair it. Pairing takesa minute or so and may interrupt your Wi-Ficonnection, since First download chromecastand connect directly to your device for amoment before putting you back onto yourregular network. On the other hand, strictlyspeaking, you don't need a Google account(although you likely already have one)

INTERFACE

The Roku operating system has not changed muchover the years, and it's still a straightforward menuwith a purple background. You can put your favoritechannels front and center on the home screen, as wellas keep tabs on new shows and movies, read thenews, acquire new channels or go directly to M-Go,Roku's preferred content vendor.
