• Small and mostly end consumer applications
• Low processing capabilities -> less complex system -> Quick and Easy deployment
• It is an hype however, what it has necessarily done is exploited the low processing capabilities to good use in the market place

• B2C– Lifestyle devices– SmartWatches– Home Automation– Several small applications
• B2B– Industrial Automation
• Conversion of legacy systems
– Aeronautics– Shipping– Automotive
IOT vs ICT
• Although companies focus on IOT they don’t really call it IOT, instead ICT
• M2M and others are typical ICT application
What can be envisaged
• Too many products overlapping in offerings
• Several products deployed in quick succession
• Competition
• Leads to innovative marketing trends
• America, Europe and APAC will still make world class products because of huge consumer base
• Successful Indian products might not be many
The market is based on Ecosystem
• Ability to provide end to end solution is going to be critical
• Margins can be envisaged with Ecosystem based architecture
IOT subsystem
• Creation of IOT subsystem is crucial for success
• Current IOT products are not well optimized from the lowest processor design to the applications software.
Short term focus for IOT Companies
• Do it right first time
– There is only ONE chance in the market
• Understand the market better, focus on overseas market is a good idea
• Should hone the capability to build an IOT product in 4 to 6 months given the minimal complexity
Long term roadmap for IOT companies
• Creating a niche
• Serving targeted industry and segment
• Focus on product loving investors

• Embedded Systems software design
• Hardware design
• Deployment and Maintenance

Conclusion
• There are tons of opportunity, it is a great chance for startup companies to create a niche in different areas of interest. The focus could be pure Front End development, Backend development &combination of both, cloud architecture, Data Analytics including BigData, embedded hardware & software and combination of both. The best would be to offer a complete solution to IOT OEMs
