1. Introduction

The FE3000 Serial GSM Module provides a GSM and SMS solution that is equal to, or better priced, than any other solution of this type in the market place. For the following applications the FE3000 Serial GSM Module has pricing and functionality advantages that will negate any opposition offering. These applications are;

Concept 3000/4000 systems requiring GSM back up and / or SMS control and reporting.

Stand alone applications in remote or portable situations that require up to two inputs to be monitored and / or two outputs to be controlled.

Inner Range are also finalising additional functionality that will allow the FE3000 Serial GSM Module to communicate with any security panel currently able to interface with a Securitel STU. This will mean that the FE3000 Serial GSM Module can be used as a GSM solution with a wide range of panels.

Refer to Section 9 of this document for pricing and ordering information.

2. General

The FE3000 Serial GSM Module provides a wireless GSM communications path that can be used in a variety of applications, either in conjunction with an alarm panel, or in a stand-alone mode.

This Module connects to an alarm panel via an RS232 serial communications interface using a proprietary serial protocol. Alarm messages can then be reported via the mobile GSM network to a Central Alarm Monitoring Station using Contact ID format or to individual mobile phones using SMS text messaging. By using the FE3000 Serial GSM module the alarm panel can also be controlled using the SMS text messaging service.

Currently the FE3000 Serial GSM Module serially connects to the Inner Range Concept 3000/4000 panels providing a cost effective GSM backup solution with powerful SMS functionality to further enhance the features of the Concept 3000/4000 system.

This Module also has the capability to function as a stand-alone unit (without connecting to an alarm panel) and can be used to monitor & report alarm conditions and is also able to control Auxiliary Relay Outputs via SMS text messaging.

3. Features and Advantages

The FE3000 Serial GSM Module can be used in one of two modes; Interface Mode: Via a serial port to a Concept 3000/4000 panel. Stand Alone: Where there is no connection to a controlling device or external

panel.

The major features of the FE3000 Serial GSM Module are summarised below.

General Features

All General Features are available in both ‘interface’ and ‘stand alone’ modes. Supports alarm reporting to a Central Alarm Monitoring Station over the mobile GSM

network using the Contact ID format. The FE3000 Serial GSM Module features its own GSM dialler. As a result it does not

have to rely on the alarm panel’s dialler this makes it more reliable with better control over frame rate and DTMF timing than many conventional GSM backup units. (Note: for conventional GSM backup unit, once an alarm panel fails, alarm conditions can no longer be reported.)

An in-built real time clock is provided that allows test reports to be sent to Central Alarm Monitoring Station. To ensure the accuracy of this clock it can be programmed to continuously synchronise to the GSM network time.

Can store up to 128 time & date stamped event reviews. Allows an alarm condition to be sent to multiple numbers in multiple formats (e.g.

Alarm 1 to Telephone Number 1 in Contact ID, Alarm 1 to Telephone Number 2 in SMS text message, Alarm 2 to Telephone Number 3 in SMS text message, Alarm 1 & 2 to Telephone Number 4 in Contact ID, etc.).

Supports the storage of up to 32 mobile telephone numbers, allowing SMS messaging to multiple mobile phones.

Firmware is “Flash” upgradeable on-site via a PC or Laptop. The Module continually monitors the DC supply voltage and automatically generates

a System Alarm when the voltage drops below 11.5 VDC. Multiple System Inputs are provided by the Module to reveal its operational status.

For example some of these include …o “Reset” – the Module has been reset.o “Low Batt. (Low Volts)” – the DC supply voltage reaches 11.5 VDC (typical

“Low Voltage Sense Voltage”).o “RF Hware” – the RF (GSM) Modem has been reset.o “RF Reg.” – the RF (GSM) Modem has been registered on the GSM network.o “RF Low Sig.” – the RF (GSM) Modem signal level is low.o “RF Problems” – the RF (GSM) route fails.o “RS232 Fail” – Serial communications has failed.

Features when used with Concept 3000/4000

Seamlessly connects to a Concept 3000/4000 panel via a serial UART connection enabling full alarm reporting and SMS control.

Virtual “plug and play” operation of the FE3000 Serial GSM Module is now possible when it is used in conjunction with a Concept 3000/4000 panel through the use of powerful but simple to use defaults.

SMS text messages can be sent to a Concept 3000/4000 Control Module via the FE3000 Serial GSM Module to:

o Turn a Home Auxiliary ON/OFF.o Turn an Home Auxiliary ON for a specified time in minutes or seconds.o Turn an Area ON/OFF.o Request the current name and state of any 6 Home Auxiliaries.o Request the current name and state of any 6 Areas.o Isolate/Restore a Zone Input.o Discard any pending SMS text messages waiting to be sent.o Acknowledge a sent alarm.o Request a short help message.

By using the “RS232 Fail” System alarm both the Concept 3000/4000 or the FE3000 Serial GSM Modem can instantly notify a Central Alarm Monitoring Station of either a panel failure, serial communications failure or an FE3000 Serial GSM Module failure.

Two on board Relay outputs are provided that can be programmed to activate or deactivate based on the current operating state of the FE3000 Serial GSM Module.

Solves a wide range of paging applications.o SMS text alarms can be sent to groups of mobile phones, allowing guards or

caretakers to be instantly alerted to any critical event.o Upon acknowledgement of an alarm by any mobile phone in a valid group a

restore is automatically sent to all other phones in the group. This allows a guard or caretaker to alert others that he is acknowledging and attending an alarm.

o All actions are logged with a time and date stamp in the Concept 3000/4000 review memory allowing site managers and caretakers to monitor the response time and attendance of staff to any alarm event.

Stand Alone Features

Able to function as a “Stand-alone” unit for:o Monitoring applications; where programmable thresholds can be set on either

of two 0 – 15 VDC Analogue Inputs (0.1 V resolution). An alarm condition can be programmed to occur if the input falls above or below the trigger points and remains in that state for an optional time delay. Once an alarm is detected it can then be reported via the mobile GSM network to a Central Alarm Monitoring Station using Contact ID format or to individual mobile phones using SMS text messaging. {Note: Analogue inputs are available in Stand Alone mode only}

o Control applications; where either of two on-board Relay Outputs, can be controlled via SMS text messages, or by programming can be activated or deactivated according to the current operating state of the FE3000 Serial GSM Module.

A text description of up to 16 characters can be entered for each Zone Input and reported as part of any SMS text messaging related to that input.

The value of either Analogue input can be reported via an SMS text message by sending a simple SMS request to the FE3000 Serial GSM Module.

In order to simplify the installation and set-up of the FE3000 Serial GSM Module sensible default options are available to minimise programming.

The FE3000 Serial GSM Module can be programmed remotely via SMS text messages or via a PC using a modem to the data channel of the GSM service.

Future Features In order to seamlessly connect the FE3000 Serial GSM Module to a wide range of

panels, Inner Range are further enhancing the serial protocol capability of the FE3000 Serial GSM Module to interpret data from a Securitel STU connection. This will allow any panel with the capability to communicate with a Securitel STU to utilisethe FE3000 Serial GSM Modem and thus take advantage of the wide range of features and the back up communications path capability that it offers.

4. Applications
