How Echo Cancellation works?• Echo Cancellation Repeaters allows the implementation of outdoor coverage extension

solutions without the typical antenna isolation limitations, that strongly affects the coverage extension.

• Echo Cancellation Repeaters, thanks to state-of-the-art FPGA programming, can be installed with a reduced antenna-to-antenna isolation, without any degradation on the Repeater specifications and the expected QoS.

• In traditional Repeater installations, the requested antenna-to-antenna isolation level requirements are 15dB higher than the Repeater maximum gain, to avoid oscillation, to maintain an acceptable C/I and to provide good QoS. I.e. for an 80dB gain Repeater, the antenna-to-antenna isolation is requested to be 95dB.

• In Echo Cancellation Repeater installations, the requested antenna-to-antenna isolation level is 25dB lower than the Echo Cancellation Repeater!!, i.e. for an 80dB gain Echo Cancellation Repeater, the antenna-to-antenna isolation is requested to be 55dB.

• Echo Cancellation Repeaters, thanks to its internal FPGA programming, is capable to learn, from the “being amplified signals”, which are “new signals” coming from the BTS and which are “already amplified” signals coming from the feedback path, and it eliminates them, allowing only the “new signals” to be amplified, in both directions, UPLINK and DOWNLINK.

Echo Cancellation vs. Freq. Shift

• Frequency shift is an old fashion way to extend outdoor coverage

• Echo Cancellation is a state-of-the-art technology for outdoor coverage

• Per each channel being amplified, Frequency Shift needs an additional channel to be used as a transport channel, inefficient spectrum use. Echo Cancellation works with the same BTS channels (Frequency received = Frequency transmitted)

• Frequency Shift technology requires two modules, one installed at BTS site and the other installed at Remote site, increased hardware costs, increased operation costs, increased maintenance costs, reduced overall MTBF. Echo Cancellation technology only requires the unit to be installed at Remote site.

• Due to the channel change, Frequency Shift repeaters may generate frequency deviation, with a reduced QoS. Echo Cancellation technology does not make any frequency translation, no frequency error added.
