Learning task: Colors Spinner Description: Colors are very important for children. The child will move the hand of the clock and the hand will stop on one color. The child will choose a circle that has the same color of the circle third which the hand is located .For example, if the clock hand is pointing at the red third of the clock, the child should find a red circle and match it with the red circle in the laminated card. Age group: 3- 5 years. Subject area: Science. Subject standards: Exploration and experimentation. Subject topic: Colors. Background information: - Why we teach children the colors? - The colors are very useful for children to be able to match, compare, classify, and differentiate between different items around them. Description:

This activity is related to cognitive approach. Children have different experience such as seeing and listening.

This activity is a self correction activity.

This activity helps children select their own personal items according to the colors.

Student Characteristics Accommodated:

Accommodating linguistic and mathematical intelligence was important in the design of this activity as student enjoy moves the hand of the clock color and naming the name of the color.

This activity covers the whole child development (physical, language, and emotional development).

Introduction of the Learning Task:

Show the child the place of the activity in the shelf.

Tell the child the name of the activity.

Ask the child to carry the activity to the table.

Ask the child to remove the items from the tray.

Show the child how to move the hand of the color clock.

According to the hand lactation, ask the child to match between two circles that have same color.

Ask the child to name the color of the circle.

The teacher moves the hand of the clock and asks the child to name the color of the third that the hand is pointing at.

Remember to keep the sand timer for the child while doing the activity.

When he finishes, ask the child to return the activity back.

Checklist of Tray Items:

- Tray

- Plastic bag.

- Circle colors

- Laminated card.

- Color clock.

Simplification Activity

Use only two colors instead of three.

Extenuation:

*Add secondary colors (Orange, purple, and green) with primary colors.

* use different shapes (square, rectangle and triangle beside circle.

Enrichment Activities:

Students could be introduced to the concept of primary colors, on the cards, under the circle.

Assessment Techniques:

Informal assessment:

Observe the child during the activities time.

Formal assessment:

Use the assessment sheet to evaluate the child progress.

Evaluation Rubric:

- Doesn’t match colors.

- Matches all colors recognizes up to 75% colors (receptive vocabulary). Identifies up to 50% colors (expressive vocabulary).

- Matches and identifies (expressive vocabulary ) all colors.

- Describe 2 or more variations in color names(light, dark, off white colors); grades colors from lightest to darkest.

Comments, Hints, & Suggestions:

Use a glue stick to anchor the colors circles on a card before laminating the two sides.

Use sand timer to manage the time for children.

Use the same shape for all the colors.

Laminated cards with colors

A paper that contains the different colors.

A plastic bag.

A small tray.

Scissor

Paper fasteners

A hole punch

Procedure:

1- Cut colors circles.

2- Glue them on the thick

cards.

3- Cut the Colors Spinner and

glue it on the thick cards.

4- Cut the arrow and glue it on

the thick cards.

5- Laminate all the circles,

Colors Spinner and arrow.

6- Put the arrow on the middle

of the color clock.

7- Use a whole punch to make

a hole for putting paper

fasteners.

8- Collect all the circles and

put them on the tray.

9- Put the laminated card and

color clock on the tray.

My Experience with this activity:

Children enjoy doing this activity and they feel that they don’t need to know the correct options because the activity is a self correction.

Most children spend a lot of time with this activity so, the teacher should put sand timer to remind the child for the time.

Because most of children like this activity, I think the teacher could use it as reinforcement.
