Keynote presentation by Ilkka Lakamieni (Programme Chair, EU Future Internet Public-Private Partnership) during the 5th Annual Internet of Things Summit in Brussels (March 3, 2014) Topics to be covered during the sessions of the IoT Summit included What are Europe’s policy objectives for the Future Internet, and how can the Internet of Things realise these objectives? What does the current European IoT ecosystem look like? What impact will the Internet of Things have on European society in the future? What can be done to ensure the EU takes the lead in IoT innovation and adoption? What needs to be done to boost IoT technological innovation, while also respecting existing European regulations regarding privacy and security? What new tools, initiatives and building blocks are available to support IoT innovation in Europe? What problems do European cities and societies face and how can IoT technologies solve these problems? What can Europe learn from the US and other regions around the world? The Future Internet Public-Private Partnership (FI-PPP)
The aim of the FI-PPP is to ensure that the Future Internet enables a smarter world, fostering growth, competitiveness and job creation through innovation
This requires creating an generic, open and standard platform (FI-WARE) and a meeting point (FI-LAB) around which a dynamic innovation ecosystem can be created engaging developers and entrepreneurs
Born in Europe but open to regions who share the same vision to create a single market and create the opportunity to re-use and exploit economies of scale
