WHO IS MR. SUAVE?
(MAN OF MEEKNESS)
We want Christian FATHERS who will be MEN that take a stand,
assume responsibility, and make an impact for God
"Meek" as described in Webster’s dictionary as
submissive, humble, mild.
The Hebrew and Greek word "meek" all come from a root
word meaning humble or mild.
BIBLICAL VIEW ON
MEEKNESS
MEEKNESS DESCRIBES A GREAT LEADER
3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)
NUMBERS 12:3
A great leader is one who leads; not drives.
A good Father is one who is remembered for the
strength of his example; not the strength of his
arm.
MEEKNESS is used to describe jesus
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
MATTHEW 11:29
Godly fathers are strong enough to defeat Sin and Satan; yet gentle enough
to offer shelter to the needy.
Everyone remembers the love of mother's hug but
no one forgets the security dad's arms provide.
5 “Say to Daughter Zion, ‘See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’
MATTHEW 21:5
Blessed is the father who can reign as king in his
house while taking out the garbage.
THE POWER OF
MEEKNESS
(1)MEEKNESS SHOWS A MAN IS AT
PEACE WITH HIMSELF.
26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise him— may your hearts live forever!
PSALMS 22:26
15 This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.
ISAIAH 30:15
Bill Davis
With a large cross tattoo on his head and several other tattoos
visible all over his body, Bill Davis might
come off as a bit “hard” to a lot of people. But Bill
perfectly shows the world the exact reason why you should never judge someone by how
they look.
That’s because Bill has one of the most giving and loving hearts you
could ever hope to meet in your entire life. He
and his wife were heartbroken when their
son, Chris, was diagnosed with severe
autism and several other ailments years ago.
Doctors had little hope for the boy, and tried to direct the young couple to give their “sick” son
up to an institution to be looked after.
But the doctors didn’t seem to understand that Bill has something inside
his soul called “unconditional love.”
While dealing with Chris’ autism certainly
presented a huge challenge, he and his
wife decided they would give him love instead.
They studied and learned as much
information as possible about the best ways to
treat Chris. And over the years, they’ve raised a
boy whom anyone would be proud to have as
their own!
Chris was certainly a handful and
sometimes still has his difficult moments, but thanks to Bill and his amazing wife, they’ve
taught their son to become an amazing member of society.
And at the end of the day, that’s all anyone can hope to bring into the world. At the 2:10 mark of this video, Bill shows everyone that love is the answer to
just about everything.
This video was shot as part of Andrew
Solomon’s book Far from the Tree, a book
filled with several stories about
extraordinary families like the Davis clan. And
a very very special thanks to Nick Davis
Productions for providing this amazing,
and incredibly shot, video.
Chris was certainly a handful and sometimes
still has his difficult moments, but thanks to
Bill and his amazing wife, they’ve taught
their son to become an amazing member of
society. And at the end of the day, that’s all anyone can hope to bring into the world.
(2)MEEKNESS
OBTAINS GOD’S
LEADERSHIP.
9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.
PSALM 25:9
A good father knows enough to know he doesn't know it all. In meekness he waits upon the
Lord for the guidance he needs to lead his family.
(3)MEEKNESS IS PART OF THE CHARACTER
OF A CHRISTIAN.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
GALATIANS 5:23
2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
EPHESIANS 4:2
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
COLOSSIANS 3:12
11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
1 TIMOTHY 6:11
Elias Charles Disney (February
6, 1859 – September 13,
1941)
Disney was born at Jamestown Road close to
the rural village of Bluevale, Ontario, Canada, to Irish
Protestant immigrants Kepple Elias Disney
(1832–1891) and Mary Richardson (1838–1909).
Both parents had immigrated from Ireland to Canada as children,
accompanying their parents. He became a
farmer and a businessman with little success. He moved to
California with his father in 1878 in hopes of
finding gold.
Instead, Kepple was convinced by an agent
of the Union Pacific Railroad to buy 200 acres (81 ha) of land
near Ellis, Kansas. Disney was an ardent
socialist and a supporter of Eugene Debs. Disney worked on his father's new farm until 1884, when he left to find another job. He was hired in a railroad
machine shop (one of his co-workers was
Walter Chrysler), then he joined the railroad crew
building the
Union Pacific line through Colorado. After
the railroad contract was over, he became a professional fiddle
player in Denver. Again he was unsuccessful, and he returned to his father's farm. He also
worked for a short time as a mailman in
Kissimmee, Florida, close to the eventual site of Walt Disney
World. Disney did also attempt to make a
career as an orange grower in Florida, but he
was unsuccessful.
As one can see from his attempts at being self-employed, Elias had
entrepreneurial tendencies—tendencies that his son, Walt, later
would inherit and develop. He was a
construction worker for the 1893 World's
Columbian Exposition in Chicago, an event which author Erik Larson cites
as a source of inspiration for his son Walt and the
Disney kingdom he would eventually create.
He bought shares of O-Zell Company, a jelly-
canning factory that also produced apple juice in Chicago, where his son
Walt Disney worked before he joined the Red Cross Ambulance Corps
in WWI.
Elias Charles Disney was a religious and strict Christian man, with a sense of honesty and
decency. He was a member of the
Congregational Church and often preached stern sermons on
Sundays in this church. His son, Walter Elias
Disney, was named after a Congregationalist
minister named Walter Parr. Walt's middle name
was after his father, Elias Charles Disney.
Elias and Walt had a tense relationship as
Elias never saw Walt´s profession as an artist as
a real job. Elias never drank alcoholic
beverages and rarely smoked. According to biographical accounts,
Disney was a stern man who could have a strong
temper at times, and would take the money
his sons earned for "safekeeping",
considering them too young to know the value
of money.
If his children misbehaved, Elias would not hesitate punishing
them with a switch. Elias would talk socialism with strange characters and bring them home. He
was a fiddler himself and would bring home
anyone else who could play an instrument.
(4)MEEKNESS
MEANS YOU’LL BE
THE ULTIMATE WINNER.
11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.
PSALMS 37:11
5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
MATTHEW 5:5
6 The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.
PSALMS 147:6
(5)MEEKNESS MAKES US
RECEPTIVE TO THE
GOSPEL’S CALL.
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.
ISAIAH 61:1
(6)MEEKNESS IS THE OTHER
SIDE OF REPENTANCE.
We become humble enough to realize that a
really meek man is the one who turns from sin and
accepts the salvation that Christ offers.
21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
JAMES 1:21
3 Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands.Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger.
ZEPHANIAH 2:3
Be a man FOR the Lord but be MEEK BEFORE the
Lord.
