FABRIC SPREADING
Fabric spreading is the process of laying fabrics in stack from as per marker length and width . the shape of the fabric that is attained as per as spreading of fabric , is called the ‘’fabric lay’’ In the fabric lay their may have fabrics in 2 to hundreds of layers
Less time consumy Minimize the cutting at a tim Reduce fabric wastage To make and planevery ply flat e. At correct tension
Objects of spreading :
Thickness of fabric The greater the fabric thickness and greater lay height. The lower the fabric thickness and lower lay heightVolume of production The greater the fabric volume and greater lay height Length of cutting knife The cutting knife length have must be 70% .Nature of fiber Cotton and seed fiber are also natural fiber Cotton fiber thickness is very higher Seed fiber thickness is very lower
Factor affecting by lay height:
Alignment of the fabric plies: Fabric plies should be aligned according to the
marker length and marker width.
Correct ply tension: To prepare the lay of the fabric, during fabric
spreading its base condition to maintain the correct ply tension.
Requirements of fabric spreading:
Fabric must be flat: During fabric spreading it should be carefully
noticed that there is no and fold or crinkle in the fabric.
Elimination of fabric flaws: The fold of fabric must be indicated during
spreading and necessary steps should be taken to remove these flaws. It is the duty of the operator
Requirements of fabric spreading:
Correct ply direction: During fabric spreading it is very important to
detect what type of fabric it is and spread the fabric with
correct ply direction.
Requirements of fabric spreading:
Elimination of static electricity: In fabric spreading static charge may produced
due to friction specially the fabric containing the man-made fiber like polyester, nylon etc. To overcome the problem we
should take following steps: i. To use the antifriction paper ii. To increase the moisture of cutting room, iii. To use silicon finish in cutting blade.
Requirements of fabric spreading:
Easy separation of the cut lay into bundles: Identification marks are used in plies due to color or shade
variation.Avoidance the fusion of plies during cutting : In case of cutting of fabric lay by cutting knife, friction may be produced between lay and cutting knife which contains thermo plastic fibers may fused due to heat generation.
Requirements of fabric spreading:
Avoidance of distortion in spread : To avoid these problem previous steps should
be taken. Matching check and stripe: During fabric spreading it should be carefully
noticed that checked and stripe should be matched otherwise garments may be fault.
Requirements of fabric spreading
There are two types of fabric lays : Straight lay Stepped lay

There are mainly two methods used for fabric spreading:
Manual method Mechanical method
Method of fabric spreading
Fully manual spreading: This method is working by two people who
are working from two different side of spreading table by hand or spreading fabric on the table by crossing a rod in to the tube in the center of roll of fabric
Manual method
Manual spreading with the help of hook:
This method also a part of manual process called hand process with hook because this process is a little different from hand process with a little extra material called hook.
Manual method
With the help of manual spreading track:
Tracks carry the roll of fabric and spread on the spreading table by changing this position from front to the end of the spreading table
Manual method
There are two types of mechanical method ─
Semi automatic Full automatic
Mechanical method
The advantage of semi automatic machine
Semi automatic
The advantage of full automatic machine
Full automatic
Splice is generally two types : Straight line splice Interlock splice
Types of splice
Straight line splice Splice line keeping about 2 inches of additional
fabric on the both side. The spreading of fabric restarts. Merges with the patterns of both sides along the
splice mark.
Types of splice
Interlock splice Use of two type pattern in an interlock
condition along the width. Use of chalk
