NH₃/urea SCR is a very effective and widely used technology for the

abatement of NOx from diesel exhaust


Problem:NH₃/urea mixtures typically freeze

around -11°C (12 deg F)

Solution:The urea storage tanks, tubing, pumps,

etc., need to be heated


Solution:The dosing system components must be

protected from damage due to ice expansion, either by purging from urea solution or through freeze proof design.


Verification & ValidationThe validation of the cold start behavior of the whole system must be performed

in a climate chamber



Additional vehicle or system validation tests can be performed while in a

climate chamber
