Deputy Director General
Kristian Møller
Danish Energy Agency
Energy Strategy 2050 – from coal, oil and gas to green energy.
1. Security of energy supply under pressure
2. Curb global warming - reduce GHG emissions
3. Growing global demand for cleantech
The future energy policy: two challenges and an opportunity
Energy Strategy 2050 – from coal, oil and gas to green energy.
…by improving energy efficiency
…based on renewable energy sources
…requires a major restructuring of the economy
…define new cleantech markets
Reaching independence of fossil fuels…
Energy Strategy 2050 – from coal, oil and gas to green energy.
Boosting the green growth
Share of energy technology in total export 2000-2009 EU-15 and Denmark
Cumulative investments in renewable energy 2010-2035 for selected countries and regions
Energy Strategy 2050 – from coal, oil and gas to green energy.
Three track approach – reflecting tech maturity, prices and
infrastructure lifecycles
Energy Strategy 2050 – from coal, oil and gas to green energy.
New concrete energy policy initiatives up to 2020 defines the business case
Track 1 The most important initiatives in the conversion track
Windpower 600MW offshore wind power at Kriegers Flak in the Baltic Sea 400MW near coast wind power incl. test facilities 500 MW additional windpower on land through new planning initiatives
Biomass Fuel shift from coal to biomass at large-scale heat and power plants Fuel shift from natural gas to biomass in small-scale CHP-plants based 10% blend-in of biofuels in transport by 2020
Efficiency improvements Step up of energy saving obligations on energy companies targeting buildings and businesses Tighter building codes and standards for building components No new oil boilers from 2012/2017 Promotion of RE-based heating
Energy Strategy 2050 – from coal, oil and gas to green energy.
Results for the next ten years: Denmark more than meets RE and EE targets
With 33 pct. RE in primary energy consumption by 2020, Denmark will more than meet EU 2020 RE target of 30 pct.
With a 9,5 pct. reduction in primary energy consumption by 2020 compared to 2006 , Denmark will more than meet national and EU energy efficiency targets.
Share of renewable energy in primary energy 2009-2020 Primary energy consumption 2006-2020
Energy Strategy 2050 – from coal, oil and gas to green energy.
Over-all consumption of fossil fuels on track to reach independence of fossil
fuels by 2050…
…with a strong reduction already by 2020
