Congratulations ! You have been hired as a toy designer for Matell. Matell is the producer of popular toy lines such as Hot Wheels, Match Box, Fisher Price, American Girl , and Barbie.

Introduction

Your task is to design Mattel’s new Native American Action Figure Play Sets. Your group may choose to design an Artic, Northwestern, Plateau, Southwestern, Plains, or Southeastern Native American Play Set.

You will need to draw an illustration of your Native American Play Set and write a description of your play set. Your description should include information about the food, clothing, and shelter of the Native Americans chosen by your group.

You will navigate through some websites where you will collect information you will need for your play set to accurately represent the Native Americans chosen by your group.

Use the graphic organizer to organize the information you find about the food, clothing, and shelter of the Native Americans your group has chosen.

Task

Students will be assigned to groups of three. Each group will choose one Native American tribe to study. Within the groups, each student will choose to research the dress, shelter, or

food of their chosen tribe. Students will use the websites presented in the Native American webquest

as sources for their research. As students research their topics, they should consider answering the

“Questions to Guide Students”. Once the research is complete, students will share the information with their group members and begin the process of designing the Native American play set.

Each student will be responsible for designing their Native American aspect using an illustration.

Illustrations will be done on construction paper using markers, crayons, colored paper and pencil.

A short paragraph about each aspect of Native American life will be displayed with the illustration.
