15. Be a speaker
Willing to travel (but not far)
Speaking is an easy way to make connections, and educate people
on PostgreSQL. Especially at Universities. Simply contact the local
CS or ACM.
16. Participate
Become a Member
Becoming a member qualifies you to receivegrants, influence the
direction of the non-profit and helps provide small but much needed

Join the list,[email_address]
Low traffic list for discussing PostgreSQL Matters (non
technical) in the United States
17. Write Curriculum
How do I interact with the custom format backup?
How do I manage the pg_hba.conf?
How do I use PostgreSQL permissionss?
Simple, effective HOWTOs increase visibility to new users.
18. Start a PUG
PUGS are a great way to network, bring new people to the
community and learn new tricks.
Use local libraries as places to meet (free).
Contact other local Ugs for speakers or contact PgUS to have a
speaker come to you.
Have PUG Days, single day conferences, with 5-6 talks.
19. Economic Opportunity
There is no better time to be in the Open Source Database
business.
People spending less money means smarter business
decisions
People spending less money means reconsiderations of new
licenses.
If you have 100k in Oracle licenses, wouldn't you rather put
that 100k toward business or app development?
20. Round 15 21. In 2008
Sun Microsystems bought MySQL AB.
For 10% of the price Sun paid for a 50 million dollar company,
they could have hired 25 Senior engineers to develop PostgreSQL for
25 years with an aggregate compensation of 250k a year.
22. In 2009 23. Round 15
IBM has how many database technologies?
MySQL has how many forks?
MySQL has how many core engineerswith experience still working
on the core product?
24. Round 15
Why you want to use Open Source projects. Not Open Source
products.
