Are You Feeling Desktop Virtualisation Pain?
• High cost of downtime• Slow applications• Poor user experience
User Frustration & Low Productivity
• Manual, complex and lengthy diagnosis
• Requires many domain experts
RisingIT Support
Cost & Complexity
• Throwing hardware at problems• Oversized & inefficient environment
RisingInfrastructure Cost

What is Causing the Pain?
Virtualization Performance Challenges
Rising IT Support Cost
Rising Infrastructure Cost
Delays, Cost Overruns & Missed Objectives
User Frustration & Low Productivity
Traditional tools fail to address today’s performance challenges: too complex, too slow, too fragmented, too manual.

Rapid Response To User Problems
When The User Calls The Help Desk, eG helps the
support team by showing:
Where’s the user session
– which virtual desktop?
– Which XenApp server?
What applications is the user running?
Is the problem persistent/spike/recurring?
Thin/VDI Clients option to find the user
Kevin is user name being searched and we immediately get the details of the server the user had logged on
SCREENSHOT – Simple username search to find which virtual desktop or XenApp server is supporting the user session(s)
Click on the magnifying glass which
gives the detailed
information as in the below
screen
Kevin is using java application which is consuming high CPU
SCREENSHOT – Administrator can now easily see what applications the user is accessing with just a single click
Graph gives information about the resources
used by Kevin and time period
SCREENSHOT – Administrator can also immediately see some recent history for the issue and compare this with other metrics over variable time periods
Click on the Server which takes you to the layered view of the
Citrix XenApp server.
SCREENSHOT – Administrator can also access full performance details of the XenApp server (or VDI host) to check if other users are also affected.

Reduce Time From Problem Report To Fix
eG Eliminates Bridge Calls & Finger Pointing By
Showing the full service performance end-to-end
Correlating performance events and automating
problem root-cause analysis
Prioritising alarms to separate cause from effect
Showing what’s changed in the infrastructure?
Instead of generating critical alert on all
affected servers, eG uses its automated Root Cause analysis and
suggests that the root cause issue could be
with the Oracle database and the other servers are affected because of this
root cause issue
SCREENSHOT – eG shows complete end-to-end service view with real-time status of all components and prioritised alarm status.
Orders Tablespace has no free space
SCREENSHOT – Drill down from Oracle DBS in service view shows what’s causing the problem.
Oracle DB is in critical
state
From the alarms we can see that there is some configuration change
done recently on this database server
SCREENSHOT – eG’s Alarm Window has also indicated that there has been a recent configuration change on the Oracle DBS
From the above screen it is very clear that the ORDERS tablespace size has been reduced
SCREENSHOT – eG has not only identified the cause of the problem but has identified why it occurred so that the fix is now obvious.

Minimise Unplanned Service Outages
(Prevention Is Better Than Cure)
eG Proactively Warns Administrators BEFORE
Users Are Affected By:
Applying flexible alarm policies
Self-learning of normal infrastructure behaviour
Identifying recurring minor issues
SCREENSHOT – Administrator can see details of the tests being used for any metric
SCREENSHOT – This shows what type of threshold (fixed or relative) is used, what generates minor/major/critical alarms and the Policy itself
SCREENSHOT – For metrics that normally vary by time/day, eG learns normal behaviour and uses relative thresholds for alarms
SCREENSHOT – Administrator can check if this has been an isolated event or has been occurring on a regular basis

Optimise Current Infrastructure
The workload presented by user sessions & session patterns
Distribution of user workload across service infrastructure
Resource usage and performance comparisons across service components
eG Collects More Than Just Component Performance Metrics. It Shows:
SCREENSHOT – Detailed workload reports available for all user sessions (XenApp or VDI) showing resource consumption
SCREENSHOT – Reports show if the load is balanced equally across the infrastructure
SCREENSHOT – Detail to provided to understand if loadings are as expected

Know When/Where To Add Capacity
Critical to Satisfy All Stakeholders
eG ensures you get the balance right -
Too little investment = unhappy users
Too much investment = unhappy CFO
In the wrong place = unhappy users & CFO
SCREENSHOT – Report shows what additional load the VM Cluster can support, comparing CPU and Memory
SCREENSHOT – eG Forecast Reports will use historic trend data to project what resources will be needed in the future.
