This double page is on the R&B artists The Black Eyed Peas. The fact that the lead
singer, will.i.am is the stand out figure which signifies that the article will be based
around him and he will be interviewed. This will either make the reader intrigued and
read on or turn away because they do not enjoy the styling's of The Black Eyed Peas.
Colour scheme:
The colour
scheme is basic
and simple. The
white
background
makes
everything else
look bold and
bright. In
particular
Will.I.Am stands
out due to him
being the only
one not of the
four band
members not to
be faded out
slightly.
Text: The large
writing “will he”
“won’t he” on the left
hand side of the
page stands out due
to its use of weird
font and selection of
colours. The use of
gold and blacks can
be associated with a
good or bad
decision. The fact
that “will he” is
coloured in gold
show the magazines
opinion on what he
should do therefore
showing bias. Also
“Will he” is a pun on
his name, will.i.am Image: The band itself wears respective and rich clothing so the
reader can see they are important and are significant. Will.I.am is
standing in the for front so the article is mainly going to be on him
and there maybe a small bit on the actual band
This is spread on a band from Mexico discussing swine flu. The band, The Mars Volta
have made a comment which is at the centre of the article. This shows it is of
significance and importance to the article.
Colour scheme:
The colour scheme
is basic and
doesn’t really catch
the eye much. The
pictures are in
colour which
makes them stand
out a little. But
mostly we see a
heavy influence of
black text on a
white background.
This makes the
text stand out and
easily readable
Text: The text as
I said with the
colour scheme
is black font with
a white
background
much like a
newspaper
article. The big
piece of text has
been displayed
as if cut from a
newspaper
article. Also the
fact it is
displayed like
this makes it
stand out and
increases it’s
importance
Main image and other images: the main image is off the two band members.
They look serious and strong. There body language is very masculine and
the one on the right displays dominance while the other one looks smug and
cocky. The background looks very derelict which shows they are just like us
and don’t live a life of luxury. The other pictures are significantly smaller and
just show the sights of Mexico and pictures related to the article
This spread is about R&B artist Beyoncé Knowles’s younger sister, Solange Knowles,
who is relatively unheard of. People will be shocked by the fact the magazine has
quoted that she has made one of the best R&B albums this year. This intrigues the
audience to know more about her and want to read the article.
Colour scheme: As
you can see it is
very basic colours,
blue and white, as
well as the grey
pictures in the
background. This
helps the main
image stand out
more as the
variation of colour
draws the eye to
her. This helps
promote the article
because the reader
has a need to find
out who she is and
why she is of such
significance
Text: the text looks
quite faint and in a
way delicate. This
may be a reference
to the singer who is
quite shy. The light
blue highlighting of
her name makes
the reader realise
who she is. Due to
her surname being
Knowles the reader
makes the
reference with
Beyoncé and then
the reader wants to
know more about
her. The bold, black
font next to her is a
quote which can
some up what she
is about without
reading the whole
article itself.
Main Image and Background Image: the main image of Solange is
big and bright due to the colours she is wearing. the red really
stands out on the page and draws the reader to look at it. The
background images are of her in different motions which can show
her different characters and emotions she has. The main one of
her looks like she is shy and timid.
