OverviewWhy did Arduino start?
The beginning of Arduino
How it works
Different types of Arduino
Projects based on Arduino
Implications
Conclusions
The reasons because it started:
A team of teachers wants to make a tool for their students
This tool must be cheaper than previous devices for doing this
They want open source project, that way people that want to can help and contribute
Why did Arduino start? [2]
In “Interaction Design Institute ” on Italy in 2005
One group of people met and thought about it
One of the founders of Processing taught there
Processing on Hardware becomes “Wiring”
Cheaper and easier than “Wiring”, becomes Arduino
The beginning of Arduino [2]
Device that can interact with the real world
HardwareMicrocontroller (Reduced Instruction Set Computer)Devices Input/Output
SoftwareProcessing language (also others like Matlab, SC, Java, etc.)Bootloader
How it works [3]
Different types of Arduino
Arduino UNO [4] Arduino Ethernet [5]
Different types of Arduino
Arduino Micro [6] Arduino Mini [7]
Arduino Fio [8] LilyPad Arduino [9]
Camera controller based on Arduino
It works using Arduino’s inputs and it receives the signals of the real world
It has different programs
Project I: Photoduino
[10]
[11]
[12]
On general aspects 3D printers can make your ideas in a three-dimensional way
It uses the additive process
Examples: MakerBot, RepRap
Project II: 3D Printers
[13] [14]
Pet Feeder that opens only for a special cat
The cat has a collar with a chip
The device that allows the cat to eat has a sensor that can recognize it
Project III: Pet Feeder
Link to the project [15]
The LilyPad Arduino is more useful than the other boards because you can sew it on your clothes
You can make lights, music or anything you imagine
Project IV: Interactive Clothes
[16][17]
Electronics are everywhere
We will be a different type of consumers
Equal access rights for all students
Startup ventures will have an easier way to do their projects
Implications
“Arduino is a physical representation of the great things that you have in the open-source software but now in hardware” [2]
People can see your designs and improve them
We can understand the world better
We can learn about electronics, to think, to work in a team
Conclusions
Summary History of Arduino
What Arduino is and how it works
The parts of Arduino and different Arduinos
Projects based on Aduino
Implications and Conclusions
