But telephony is going to be disrupted…

Are you talking about Skype?

No. I am talking about VoIP

The main reason why we buy a Smartphone is because we need to talk with another people.

The “work to be done” here is distant communication.

For people how it is done isn't the reason for buying the product or service.

The most important value for a product or service isn't its technology, it is how its does its main work.

Disruptive technologies uses this concept.

Work to be done

They are products and services which are relatively more simple and affordable that increases the ability of the consumer that lacked the money or the abilities to get the work done.

They help the consumer to do more things that they want to do in a more effective and easy form without forcing them to have additional knowledge

But not in the consumer part of the market. It is a disruptive technology of traditional

telephony infrastructure. Today we need the traditional

communications company's infrastructures for doing a phone call.

Today everyone have…

VoIP is a disruptive technology

… their email account

… their website…

… and can give…

… infrastructure for the other people

Communication companies have got the monopoly of the infrastructure.

VoIP is disrupting the infrastructure because it makes more easy and accessible to give phone callings service to the people

If you can give internet to your neighbor, make a mail server or web server then you will be able do a phone server

This is why Skype idea is wrong

But with telephony

It is designed around technology instead the consumers.

It doesn´t make more accessible the make a phone call for the majority of people, it makes more hard since you need a computer, or a Smartphone, a Skype account and more knowledge and abilities than using an usual phone for calling.

In other words, it makes worse the “work to be done” that in this case is talking with a distant person
