Front cover The main image-The first thing I did on my front cover was the image for the background. I had to chose from file which one I liked the best. I chose this one because it fit the page nicely and also because my main target audience is males it links to the male gaze theory which would make more people buy my magazine. By going onto photo shop selecting file then open. That brings up a file which shows me the file holding all of my images. Once you have chosen the image you want for the front cover you have to bring up a blank A4 paper, as this is going to be the template for the magazine. You do this by pressing file, then new. Then a ox should come up for you to then press ok. It will then come up with you white A4 paper. One this is done I had to transfer the image that I wanted for the background onto the paper.

I did this by grabbing the picture and dragging it onto the A4. When I transferred my image it wasn’t the right size that I needed so what I had to do was hold one of the corners and press control at the same time, then I dragged he image to the size that I needed. Doing this is good because it doesn’t pixelate the image. For the image hat I had chosen, it didn’t have a big enough space at the top of the page to fit the title so I had to leave a blank space at the top which I could then colour in with the same colour as the background of my image. I did this by selecting the same colour as the back ground with this tool then using the paint tool to colour in the top. This is how I got my main image.

The title-For the title for the front cover I had to chose a font from the ones already on the computer. I wanted to chose one that was easy to read but had some potential to change. On the left side there is a bar which has a tool that allows you to write. At the top of the page there is a box where you are able to chose the font from just clicked that and scrolled down. Once I had chosen my font I wrote out onto the background what I wanted my title to be which was “INDEX”. On the other side of the screen there is another tool bar, on there it shows you everything you have so far done, if you double click onto the one showing your title it brings up an option box.

After scrolling through the many options I had decided to add a drop shadow and a red glow. I did this because the colour of the glow matches the colour that is also in the background photo. I had decided to place the title at the top of the page taking most of the masthead up because that is where titles are typically placed on magazines, so people would be looking for it in that place more.

Straplines-I had decided when making my skeleton layout that I wanted a strapline on both the top and bottom of the front cover. To do this I used the shape tool from the left tool bar, I decided to use the rectangle tool. At the top of the page there is a box that allows you to chose which colour you would like, when you click this a box will come up that allows you to chose a colour. I then took the shape tool and dragged from left to right, this created the rectangle. I could then resize it to any size that I thought was best. To get the text into the box I again used the text box tool.

Barcode-Every magazine has a barcode because it is necessity so they can price it. To get one for y magazine I searched the internet for images of barcodes. I then chose one that I thought would look nice on the front cover and saved it to the computer. When I go back onto photo shop I pressed file at the top of the page, this opens up my folders, next I select the image of my barcode. Once had selected the image I just dragged the image from its box onto the magazine. I decided to place it at the bottom right hand side because, I think, it would be the easiest place for anyone to see it.

Cover line’s-For the cover lines I had decided that I wanted the main one to be placed in a black box. For the black box I just used the rectangle shape tool again, this is so that it is the most highlighted out of all of the box’s. And again I just used the text box tool to write in the box. For the other cover line's I just used the text box normally on the back ground. I used black and grey as the background is a light colour, also the black box would need to stand out so I would need to use white to stand out from the black.

Insert- I had to use the shape tool for the insert as I wanted it to stand off the page. Instead of using the regular rectangle shape I decided to use a custom made shape, I did this by right clicking the shape tool and selecting custom, which was the one at the bottom. This opens up a bigger array. I knew that I wanted a zip zap circle shape as it pops of the page. Once I had found a shape as close to what I wanted I dragged it onto the top of the page in a place where it would easily be seen by people who walk past in the shops. Because I wanted the insert to stand out I decided to have a drop shadow and glow on it as well. I then used the text tool to write in “Brand New Media”.
