I based my design around some of the existing House/Dance magazines. For my front cover I used a banner at the top highlighting what was included into the magazine, beneath created used large text for the name of the magazine, I added a outer glow to text to make it standout as well as giving it a neon club sign effect, this draws your eyes to the magazine

I inserted a large image of the DJ who is mixing on DJ decks, the large photo contracts well with the gradient blue background which makes it eye-catching. In order to make the text on the front cover more readable and be noticeable I added a soiled fill to the textbox so this doesn’t conflict with the image making it hard to read, as well as this I used a complementary colour for the text to make the writing standout even more.

I added a white textbox on the bottom-right of the cover with a highlighted story; I added a drop shadow to give the effect the box is on top of the cover inferring it’s a added feature. By using all these design techniques the front cover of my magazine seems vibrant with different use of colours and can be easily read from a distance.

Design

On the contents page I decided to use a basic design by having topics clearly divided in sections, I set out 4 section which were Interview, Technology, Music and Plus. I also added a sidebar to include all the main features in the magazine issue.

I associated different solid colours to them so they are easily visible to the reader. I also added the competition seal on the contents pages making it flow from the front cover; this will also entice the readers to have a look through the magazine.

Design

For my article I decided to arrange the text around the large image of the artist which I had taken, I also decided to include quotes around the artist giving the effect that he said the quotes shown. I have added a sidebar to the article so that I could provide additional information to the readers; this information is separate to what that article covers about the artist. I added photos to the article to break-up some of the text, this allows the reader to have a break from reading and look at the images which are related to the article.

Language

I used mature and intellectual words such as ‘sophisticated’ since my main target audience will be the age range from 16-40 year olds. I have used technical language in the article because I assume target audience would know the terms used or associated with dance and house music.

Brand

I have created a brand for the magazine by giving it a distinctive look and I have also created a logo that is easily recognisable and is used throughout the magazine.

The logo has the letter R in the middle of the house silhouette, the R relates the magazine name Residence and the house connotes the genre of music which is house music.
