What were the initial conditions?
o Solid-state physics department of TUB provided
Physics course for undergraduate engineering
students.
o 500 students in undergraduate physics course (lack
of practical course for these students).
o Separate courses on experimental and theoretical
approach.
o Frontal teaching instead of self managed learning
and no authentic learning environment.

What are the remote experiments?
o "real" experiment
in real
laboratories, cont
rolled remotely
through
"LabView„
software.
o controlled and
performed
remotely through
a web-interface.
o Remote Farm

General goals
o Learning of the fundamental physical phenomena by
theory, experiment and simulation (without time shift).
o Learn to deal with remote-controlled experiments and
with practice-related problems during the experiment.
o Learn to deal with text-editing, data processing programs
and learn the standards of scientific reporting.
o Improving the skills related to the IT communications and
online competence.
o Integration of these abilities in the team work.
o Encouraging self managed learning in an authentic
learning environment.

Authentic learning environment
Some technical details
o Our experiments controlled with LabView from NI
o An Additional microprossesor-board to prevent the set up from being damaged.
o Collection of data by microcontroller board takes
place via RS232 to the server.
o Live stream: AXIS 241Q video server.
OnPReX and LiLa
o An integrated platform for remote exp., virtual Labs
and learning resources.
o A framework for online collaboration between users
and instructors.
o An educational support system.
