THE CHALLENGE In today’s world, child safety is our first priority, but many school districts, there is very little insight into the school bus activities once they leave the school grounds. School districts do not have information regarding if students are on the right bus at the right time, visibility into the buses to determine if they have gone off route, if the bus driver is speeding, or if the engine is experiencing problems where maintenance needs to be involved. THE SOLUTION Presidio has developed the OASIS (Open Air Secure Information System) architecture to address these real-world problems. The OASIS architecture utilizes standards-based technologies to ensure school districts will be able to adopt future technologies when they need to. One of the core components of the solution is the Presido EnviroExtreme 819 router (EXR819). The EXR819 uses an industry-leading Cisco router that is integrated into a ruggedized IP66-rated MILSPEC enclosure. The EXR819 has 3G connectivity for Internet and GPS connectivity for location tracking and speed as well as a connection to the school bus on-board diagnostics system in order to monitor engine statistics such as RPM and throttle position. The OBD connection is capable of monitoring the health of the bus and alerting maintenance technicians immediately to the possibility of a bus engine failure. The EXR819 includes an advanced Cisco 802.11n Wi-Fi connection, giving students the ability to be online securely and complete schoolwork while riding the bus to or from school. STUDENT CONNECTIVITY Supports district strategies for anytime, anywhere student access and learning Great for districts where children may spend extensive time daily riding the bus due to long route runs Wi-Fi connectivity for students in order for them to complete homework while on the bus ISD standard content filtering for the students on the school bus Netflow data gathered to show where students are spending the majority of their time on the Internet PRESIDIO TRANSPORTATION SOLUTIONS START TRACKING.

THE SOLUTIONPresidio has developed the OASIS (Open Air Secure Information System) architecture to address these real-world problems.

STUDENT CONNECTIVITY• Supports district strategies for anytime,

anywhere student access and learning• Great for districts where children may

spend extensive time daily riding the bus due to long route runs

• Wi-Fi connectivity for students in order for them to complete homework while on the bus

• ISD standard content filtering for the students on the school bus

• Netflow data gathered to show where students are spending the majority of their time on the Internet

School Bus Tracking• Real-time GPS/AVL vehicle tracking.• Real-time and historical tracking information for school bus trend analysis.• Instant alerts should the school bus travel outside of the designated route.• Instant alerts should the school bus violate transportation policies (i.e., idling the bus for

too long, speeding on any roadway, and excessive throttling).• Instant alerts should the engine throw a code – possibly indicating a potential issue with

the engine.• Instant alerts should the school buses arrive at a designated stop before or after the

designated times (i.e., some districts have a requirement that bus arrive no more than five minutes and no later than five minutes of the designated times).

• Ability to show idling time and students who are at each pick-up/drop-off point.• Street view of any violation point (to determine the potential reason for the violation,

such as speeding or excessive throttling in order to avoid a red light, or excessive idling in a parking lot because the bus is arriving earlier than it is supposed to).

• Real-time traffic analysis to estimate the time for a bus to make it to the designated spot – Can also be configured to send an SMS/email out to parents, or update a Twitter feed to notify parents in the event that a bus may be late.•Automatic updates to Twitter to allow parents to follow the bus and receive positive Twitter updates as well as potential delays.

• Ability to integrate swipe-card technology for student attendance and tracking. • Extensive standard reports along with custom reporting capabilities.
