CONCLUSION?
SOCIAL MEDIA IS
DANGEROUS
But we CAN survive!
Private Matters
• Social media sites commonly set their
default at little to no personal privacy.
• You must change these settings yourself!
Common Sense
• If you wouldn’t say it to someone’s
face in person, don’t say it online.
• Don’t use Facebook while half-
asleep, angry, or inebriated.
• Wait 5 MINUTES before hitting enter,
clicking send, or posting anything!
More Common Sense
• If you need to add a parental
advisory, keep it off your page!
• If you’re talking to only one person,
talk to them via messages instead.
• Remember: Everything online is there
forever, no matter where you post it.
Social Media @ School
• You represent the school—if you
wouldn’t do it on campus or in a
classroom, don’t do it online.
• Do not attack people or their ideas.
• Do not spam groups with off-topic
posts—stay focused on the page.
Social Media @ School
• Personal matter? Personal page!
• Keep it G or PG unless academically
relevant, but be prudent when
deciding if it’s necessary or not.
• Use proper grammar, capitalization,
and punctuation—you ARE in college.
Comments? Questions? ATA – be AUTHENTIC, be TRANSPARENT, be ALTRUISTIC, and you will find enough success in Social Media to have a satisfying career and experience.
