Let’s talk about…

1. Overview of ElectroPhotographic (EP) & Inkjet (IJ) Techniques

2. Market trends

3. Current available options for digital color

4. Piezo Drop-on-Demand features and benefits

5. Compelling arguments for HC’s inkjet over toner-based systems

Trends in Print Equipment Purchases

2006-2011 MFP Industry Forecast

Growth Rate (CAGR)

Monochrome MFPs 70-89 ppm -3.3%

Color MFPs 41-59 ppm 44.4%

Color MFPs 60+ ppm 230.3%

So if the attributes of growth are

Digital, Color, and Speed,

what are the customer’s choices?

What Choices Does the Customer Have?

Suppose a buyer wanted to acquire a new digital printing

device with the capabilities for…• full color?• very high print speed (say 85+ ppm)?• reliably handling high monthly volume (say 400,000+ pages)?

Suppose he wanted laser toner quality?

Suppose he wanted to spend less than $150,000?

How many options does the customer have?

Drop-on-Demand Inkjet

• Oil-based pigment type Ink Unlike oil-based ink, water-based inks tend to:

dry out in the cartridge and clog inkjet heads smear or run when the document gets wet

Greater consistency and durability More compatible with high-volume heavy-duty inkjet heads

• Drop-on-Demand Piezo – Stationary heads – Robust construction for high volume production – Fast paper feed

Uses a small amount pressure to displace ink from head System software directs heads to apply 0 to 7 drops of ink per dot – only where needed Most other inkjet printers use thermal process that is slower and less durable

– Has higher control of dot drop placement over thermal ink jet– Long head life = high duty cycles

The RISO HC5500 - Value Proposition

• Compared to toner-based workgroup printers– High speed – Low operating cost– Reliability – Durability – Versatility – Efficient handling of VDP applications– Low power consumption

• Compared to toner-based production printers– Relatively low hardware acquisition cost– Small footprint– Simple, intuitive operation; no skilled operator required

Page 16: Cut Sheet Inkjet Challenges Toner Based Color Printers

16

The RISO HC5500 – Applications

• Best fit: higher volume environments where productivity, reliability, and low operating costs outweigh the need for ultra-high print quality – Transactional &

transpromotional printing– Direct mail– Traditional static &variable data

reprographic applications
