Crime Scene InvestigationBy: Liss Sims

Proposition

•Gather supplies

•Learn how each works and how to use proper procedures.

•Work with facilitator to set up different crime-related scenarios, then solve!

Previous Experience?

•I took a Criminal Investigations class my sophomore year, and loved the concept but the class lacked the hands-on experience I craved.

•The “close enough to taste” feeling only made me want more experience in that field.

The Challenge•I have never expected to really get into this career this way like senior project is going to. I expect that learning all of the skills, tactics and techniques will all be a good challenge to see if it would be a good career choice.

•I expect it to take me anywhere from 2-3 months depending on how long it takes me to understand the concept and how long it will take me to set up and analyze each crime scenario.

•I am hoping to use a room or office that my facilitator recommends or lets me use that way I can bide my time without being in the way of other people, and I have a space to myself that I can work in.

My estimated costs are to be distinguished based on if I am going to be borrow supplies, or if I need to buy my own.

Project Facilitator

● I have talked to Officer Rich to see if he knew someone who could be my project facilitator and he gave me a number of someone who he used to work with, and he is going to find someone in his department that is willing to work with me. I have yet to hear back from him, because of his busy schedule. This person has extensive experience in the field of on-site crime scene investigating, and analyzing.

Product● First I need to learn all of the proper procedures before I can do my product so as to not affect

my outcome and ruin my results. After that, I will learn each step on how to solve each crime-scene scenario. Once I learn how to do that, I will have my project facilitator set up each demonstration and I will solve it on my own. Collectively, this will all be my product.I hope to learn what challenges and skills are needed to be a Crime Scene Investigator, and I hope to do this by manually going through each step and make mistakes and learn how to do them better and to see if my specific set of skills will be good for this line of work.I will demonstrate my final product by showing the progressive stages of learning the tools of this trade with pictures of my progress and pictures and logs of my struggles and finally pictures utilizing my learning by analyzing each different crime scene scenario. Then, my real final product will be my overall experience gained and learning the difficulties and triumphs of being a Crime Scene Investigator, and having the knowledge of knowing how to do what these people do each and every work day.
