What is WordPress?

WordPress is free and open source blogging tool and content management system (CMS) based on PHP and MySQL that runs on a server. WordPress users may install and switch between multiple themes.

Now currently running 3.9 and requirements are

PHP version 5.2.4 or greater

MySQL version 5.0 or greater

How to Install WordPress (Step 1)

The first thing you need to do to install WordPress is to download the latest installation package from http://wordpress.org

Login

Once you have your WordPress blog installed, you need to log in to the WordPress administrator console from where you can write posts and articles, Manage comments, change your theme, etc. To log in the WordPress admin panel, Navigate to the WordPress login page or directly type the URL in your browser.

Manage Posts in WordPress

WordPress gives you the option to create a summary of a post, and also add a ”More…” link to the post so that your visitors can click it and read the whole post.

Add New Post in WordPress

You can proceed with entering the desired content. Once you are ready, the new post can be published just by clicking the Publish button.

Creating pages in WordPress

Creating individual pages in WordPress is quite similar to writing a post. Just click Add New in the pages menu.

Create page category

A new category can be created from the post: Posts > Categories.

Comments Listing

In WordPress your visitors have the option to leave comments on your site.

General Setting

You have a number of options that you can set for your Comments.

They are listed under

Setting > Discussion.

How to Install Themes in WordPress

To find the theme in your WordPress: Administrator Area > Appearance > Themes.

How to Activate and Deactivate Plugins?

Plugins are tools which provide additional functionality to your application. To install a plugin you generally just need to put the plugin file into your ‘wp-content/plugin’ directory.

Once a plugin is installed, you may activate it or deactivate it from the plugin menu in your WordPress Admin Panel.

How to Install WordPress Plugins?

In WordPress 2.7 and above you can install plugins directly from the admin console. Download the plugin to your computer, then log in to your WordPress area and go to Plugin > Add New.

Browse to the plugin archive and select it. Then click install now and the plugin will be installed shortly.

General Settings

You can easily adjust the website Title and tagline setting of your blog from the WordPress admin area >Setting > General.

Reading Settings

You can easily adjust the reading setting of your blog from the WordPress admin area > Setting > Reading.

From there you can adjust the front page setting, the number of post your blog pages show, the number of post your feed show, as well as the encoding for your pages and feeds.

Media Settings

The media setting in the WordPress determines the size of images that are inserted in your blog’s posts.

Permalink Setting

WordPress allows you to set your blog links the way you want them to look like via the built-in tool called permalink.

This setting can be modified from the WordPress Setting > Media.
