Costume, Hair and Make up

Page 2: Costume, hair and make up

Why is it important to have costume, hair and make up in a film?

• It is very important to apply costumes, hair styles and make up to characters in a film as it gives the audience a sense of background in terms of characters and when the events in the movie take place.

What are some prime examples of Costume hair and make up and

what do they suggest to the audience?

Page 4: Costume, hair and make up

Rorschach - Watchmen• The suit this character wears tells the

audience that he is a rather secretive character and that his main job is to gather info in any way possible, this is due to the fact that he seems to wear the type of hat most detectives wear, along with an equally similar overcoat.

• The gloves he wears indicate that he wishes to leave no trace of his existence wherever he goes.

• His mask completes his look as it leaves the audience to wonder who he really is and what his intentions and inspirations are. It tells us just how mysterious he is in terms of the movie and comic’s plot.

Rick Sanchez – Rick And Morty• This particular character is

dressed the way you would expect a doctor or scientist to dress, a lab coat, a T-shirt underneath it and of course, casual trousers.

• However, the one thing that causes Rick to stand out from all the other doctors we know is the fact that we see him with a canteen, suggesting he’s an alcoholic. Along with this, his messy blue hair suggests that his methods and attitude may be rather wild.

Liv - iZombie• The character design of Liv in the first

picture shows her as a rather casual, modern looking adult who seems to be wearing some sort of coat, possibly suggesting that she deals with some rather nasty moments in her career. The make up used around her eyes is rather bruise looking, suggesting that she may have been wounded earlier on.

• The second picture we see of her is the same, however, her eyes seem to be blood red and the colour around her pupils seems to have gone from a spinach green to a mustard yellow. This causes her to look rather murderous and savage and tells the audience she may get rather crazy or even snap out of her normal state and into a horrifying, murderous mess.
