This year (2010) marks the 30th year that residents from across Coos County have had library service and been able to borrow materials from all the libraries in the County. Learn a bit more about your libraries with this short presentation about all that makes the Coos County Library Service district and the Coastline libraries network great!

• 1967 Coos County Library Association

organized to “establish and maintain

cooperative activities among libraries”.

• 1978 CCLS awarded Oregon State Aid Grant of

$10,000 to fund study to assess library

services in Coos County.

• 1979 April – Report by Phyllis Dalton completed.

Recommended:

– Organization and funding

– Cooperative Offices be housed at Southwestern

– Central reference at Southwestern

– Countywide union catalog

– Books by Mail program

– Courier services

– Outreach services to shut-ins, detention facilities

– Cooperative acquisition/selection

– Increase audio visual materials

– Book Mobile for rural residents

– Pilot projects-children’s services

September 18- 3-year serial levy placed on

ballot for $632,000 approximately $10.00 per

person per year.

• 1980 July 1 – Levy goes into effect.

Coos Cooperative Library Services

• 1984 Outreach program for inmates,

nursing homes, adult foster homes

and homebound begins.

• 1989 City of lakeside and the

unincorporated area of Dora

added to Cooperative.

• 1992 October 29 – Master Plan

adopted by Governing Body.

November – Coos County Voters

approve District formation in the

general election along with a

permanent Tax base.

BROWSE OUR NEVERENDING BOOK SALE: The Never-ending Book Sale is a source of

high-quality hardbacks and paperbacks, along with a few media items. An ongoing part of

Bandon Library, it is stocked by the Bandon Library Friends and Foundation volunteers. You

can find it just inside the main library doors, to the right. Most items are $1.00. Nothing costs

over $5.00. Funds raised from this sale support library projects. Give it a try. You’re bound to

find something you like!

Dora Public Library Established in 1987

The library holds over 13,800 materials including over 11,000 books, and 500 compact discs,

cassette tapes and books on cassette. We subscribe to over 30 individual magazines and 3

local newspapers. More than 1500 VHS & DVD titles are also available for check-out.

Photocopy, fax, and notary service; Public use computers; Free internet and WiFi; Fiction &

Nonfiction books, videos, DVDs, audio books, music and periodicals available for checkout.

Children’s programs-contact us for times and dates. Summer Reading programs for children,

teens and adults.

The Friends of the Dora Library now have a self-serve beverage cart in the library reading

area. You can purchase coffee, tea or cocoa to enjoy while you read or relax.

Coos Library Board

Coos County Library Service District does not have a board

of directors. We do have a Coos Library Board that is an

advisory board to the governing body. The governing body of
