• If we get square of .7, we get .49. thus 49% variation is accounted for. It means 51% variation is not accounted for.


Covariance between X and Y is 40. Variance of X = 16 and variance of

Y = 256. What is correlation between X and Y?

• Correlation = Covariance / (square root of products of variance of X and variance of Y)

• =40 / (square root of 16*256)

• =.625 answer.

and Y?

• Now calculate deviation from the mode. Mean deviation is 11/11 or 1.


If 2 variables X and Y are related by 2x+3Y – 7 = 0. and mean and mean deviation about mean of X are 1 and .3. what is coefficient of mean deviation of Y about mean?

• Y= -2X/3

• =(-2*.3)/3

• =-.2 answer.


If Y = 2x+5, mean of X = 10 and Standard deviation is 5, what is

coefficient of variation of Y?

• Y = 2X

• coefficient of variation = Standard deviation / Arithematic Mean * 100

• standard deviation of Y = 2*5 = 10

• Arithematic mean of Y = 2*10 + 5 = 25

• Coefficient of variance = 10/25 *100 =40 answer.
