Page 1: Contents page decons

The contents for Xbox magazine features one dominant image for show which article is the most important article in the magazine, the colour scheme also continues throughout the contents as the headings are continuing with the lime green bold font, this is also the same throughout the sub images which shows the less important however these do not have a title but only a page number as they are expecting the reader to know what game it is therefore a title is necessary. Next to the sub images there is also more text with does not have images to accompany because they are not as important and could be considered as filler for the magazine. The headings on the contents are terms used by Xbox "Dashboard" is the name for the home screen on the Xbox on console so the sis a clever play on words as the Xbox gamers will know the terminology instantly. Just like the music magazine Billboard, the Xbox magazine does not need to include ever page in their contents however they do include what they think will appeal to the reader only including pages that are necessary for the reader.

This is the contents page for PlayStation magazine uses, it is clear which is the main article as it has one dominant image along with four sub images to accompany it. The background of the page is all light blue with white text, this is easily recognised as it follows PlayStations colour scheme well. Also keeping in with the scheme of PlayStation is the inclusion of the logo in the top left hand corner which covers the dominant image slightly therefore the reader will know that it is more important and should stand out more. This contents page differs from your average contents as it almost uses a double page spread to highlight just one of the topics featured within the magazine which is unconventional which means that it is clear to see what the main article of the magazine will be. The rest of what is included is located on the left hand side and even this isn't everything as it is just a summary as it only includes four other stories under the heading "Stories everyone's talking about." This gives the reader the idea that these are the main articles that prioritise the magazine and that the others inside do not matter as much as they don't even get a mention on the contents page.

The Nintendo Power contents page is extremely simplistic however it is effective, it also does not seem to follow any kind of colour scheme as each heading is in different colours but this could be to do with the audience they have aimed at because people tend to link Nintendo with children therefore the bold in your face colours could have connotations with this. Underneath each heading is a one line summary of what the article will be about and while it is only one line it gives the audience enough to work with and have an idea what its about. To accompany the main headings there are sub headings throughout the page which show scenes from the various games, this differs from both Xbox and PlayStation as they have one huge main image with only a couple sub images whereas this contents doesn't favour any as they are all the same size along with the same font and text size. Also in the bottom left corner there is a puff to draw the audience in as it features bold letters with the word "NOW" written onside a yellow and black box which then has what prizes are included in the magazine which are a poster and a map for a video game showing the user where treasure is.
