We already had the template of the DVD cover which was based on the Paramount Blu-ray covers but we still had to adapt some of it to fit in with our idea of what we had wanted on our cover and how we wanted it to look. Also as the version of Photoshop we used (CS3) did not have the font that was already on the template, we had to change that and find a suitable replacement for the font.

We decided that this photo was the ideal one to use for the front cover of our music DVD as it was the best photo that looked mostly as a band however as the song was more indy- pop style it was also the best image to use as they do not look to rocky or ‘emo’ but they fulfil more of an indy look which helps fit with the genre of the song.

These are some examples of the images that we did not choose to use as two of them have a shadow on the right member of the band which meant she was blocked out of view. Also the image on the far right was not able to be considered as the member in the middle is smiling which does not match the serious theme of the song and there was still a shadow clouding the face of the band member on the right.

I had added the image that we had planned to use into the template however it was clear that the picture was too small to fit the entire front of the cover and it also had a white line around it which meant that the picture was not going to be able to be used as it was clearly edited as it did not have a glow around it and the legs were cut off. I also however thought that as the title would still need to be added in that the picture still may be able to be used as I could have added a glow around it and used the title to cover the cut of.

I decided that the title needed to be big enough to cover up the cut off on the bottom of the band’s image and had used a design of a website that was able to stand out from the rest of the cover but also be big enough to take up enough space. We had used the Light Burst Text Effect off the website http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photoshop-text/text-effects/light-burst/ however it had quite a lot of steps that we needed to follow however as shown above on the cover it stood out a lot from the background and image of the cover.

The image I had originally chosen to use needed a glow, however after I added a glow, the picture became unusable as the glow only worked on the top half of the bodies as the legs had been cut off in the editing of the photo. I had decided to see if I was able to get past this problem by moving the image lower however it created a big blank space at the top of the cover. I realised then that I need an image that was big enough to fill enough space and still be able to look like a band. I needed to re-edit the picture so it would have not cut of most of the legs.

I re-edited the picture so none of the body was cut of from the images and could fit the entire cover. I had mainly used the eraser tool as it was the easiest tool to use to cut around the body and hardly take of any areas. Also the magic eraser and background eraser tool were helpful in making sure the image could be put onto any background and not need the use of the fill effect or keep large areas of white.

I had added a glow around the image and then saw again that the image still was not big enough and still left a gap at the top. However I also decided the title was too long and through my research, I saw that you hardly had any DVDs that had been produced containing a music video unless they were on the live performance DVDs. I had decided to change the name to just Go: Audio and used it to fill the blank space at the top. I had also changed everywhere that said or had the name Paramount on it, to Rubik Records as they were the label that had signed Go: Audio.

I had then created the synopsis of the DVD on the back and fitted it in with a font that was not plain and simple however was considered readable for a DVD cover. I also added the writing on the spine to help follow the conventions of an usual DVD. Also I had began adding and changing the names in the area that usually explains who is in the video with some made up names.

I had then added a glow around the writing on the spine to keep it similar to the front cover and to help it stand out more. Also the writing had been changed in the feature presentation and special features area to keep up with the font design on the cover.

The front of the cover was then added onto the music magazine advert that another member of the group had created so when looking at the advert you could see what the magazine was advertising.
