Make a simple Web-based Conference Room with Web 2.0
By Chaz Maloney
FREEWARE
A good question…
Is it possible to “mash up” a bunch of freebie Web 2.0 tools onto a single web page to create a virtual conference room?
at least i think so
The answer…
YES!
How I built a Conference Room ‘Mash-up’… the roughly six steps:
1. First I had to decide what are the most important tools for the conference room?
2. Go out and find the tools. There is a free embeddable tool for just about everything.
3. Get a copy of the free tool and collect the html and javascript snippets required to embed the tool.
4. Build a single web page container for the snippets.5. Put the web page on a host.6. Invite several people to the web page for a test
run.
What are the most important web2.0 tools to include?
I selected four for my first attempt (you might look for different tools):
Slide presenter tool Voice over IP tool Chat tool File download
Finding the tools…
Slide presenter tool = slideshare.netVoice over IP tool = yackpack.comChat tool = meebo.comFile download = for now, just a
hyperlink to a file on my website
Harvesting embeddable html and javascript snippets
Build a web page…
Use your favorite wysiwyg editor to create a table with an appropriately sized cell for each tool.
Go to code reveal and paste in the tool embedding snippets for each tool.
Save the page Load the page to a web server!
Now, invite a few people to see your nifty and sleek conference room.

Haters: don’t bother “griefing” me if you don’t like the project, it was just for fun! -Cheers!
