Use Cases1. Video conferencing; robot comes close up and starts to video-conferencing via its on-board display

2. Cognitive training (through robot and / or through screens on the walls)

3. Today Screen: providing overview of relevant information for today (to do, appointments, weather info)

4. Agenda Management

5. Music player

6. Daytime Management Support (i.e. reminders for physical exercises, social interaction or cognitive activity)

7. Control of Smart Home Appliances (curtains, lights, doors. etc.)

8. Coming Home Support; welcoming and briefing /updating the care-recipient on what is relevant to know

9. Leaving Home support: reminding the care recipient not to forget certain items to take with you etc...

10. Robot Navigation and Autonomous docking / re-charging

11. Navigation e.g. go to the kitchen, but also “follow me”

12. Object/person “tracking”

13. Remote Control of the Robot

14. Different robot personas

15. Smart Medicine Reminders

16. Fall detection and Connection to Care Centre

17. Family Picture Album Presentation

18. Detection of Open Windows / doors

19. Detection of Appliances that are left on when leaving the house

Open Issues

1. Technological Convergence:– Standards and Secure Semantic Interoperability: – COTS systems and services

2. Business Models Consolidation:– Solution Integration → Viable Business Integration– View and Order Services Online, Plug-Perform– Rent-a- AAL Systems/Service....– Shared usage of companion robots in sheltered housing or

nursing homes and hospitals…

3. related to Solution Integration and Exploitation– Forthcoming Plug & Play / self-learning / adapting

solutions• “unpack your robot, turn on your house and there it is”

– Widely accepted, implemented and used standards

– High-level/meta middleware integration (e.g. universAAL)

– Go beyond safety & security solutions

– Extend operation area of RCs to outdoor and public places
