  • 11. 11 11 Summary - SDN/NFV, an Operator Perspective Reality check: SDN/NFV maturing, but still early days: ONF / IETF / NFV / OpenSource core work still in progress (long journey). Most products today not commercially available, some proprietary solutions DC SDN overlay solutions are real (Pilot completed, vendor selected, live deployment Feb14 in Colt) But, too rapid evolving technology, some proprietary Long term (3-5 year) key challenges for Operators: How to manage installed base / legacy technologies (network & OSS) How to avoid closed, vertically integrated architectures again Critical need for network visibility/analytics tools for real carrier adoption OpenSource vs Standarization: Carriers typically not used to OpenSource? Business transformation challenges cant be dismissed!
