TEASER TRAILER STRUCTURE ANALYSIS

Page 4: Cold Teaser Trailer Analysis

Sound:

Diegetic sound is used to create tension for the drama side of the teaser trailer as seen with the use of ‘diegetic sound of throat grabbing’ and ‘diegetic sound of axe chopping’.Both diegetic sounds connote the sense of tension and violence which can link to the murder theme portrayed in the trailer.Although my teaser trailer will include some tension building scenes, I do not think I want the sounds to be as ‘raw’ and ‘gritty.

Titles:

There are only two titles in the teaser trailer which gives off the idea that most of the storyline that is revealed is in the camerawork and sound section. The trailer has a weird, artistic take on how it is shot and the titles are basic with plain white writing and a black background. Although this may be good to incorporate both sub genres in my film, I may add some sort of effect on the titles. This is because after analysing this teaser trailer, the titles appear quite monotonous yet this goes with the melancholy theme that appears in the teaser trailer.

Camerawork:

Relationships are focussed on in the teaser trailer which is seen with the consistent use of medium/close up shots. The closeness of the camera connotes the need to identify relations in the teaser trailer, making bonds a main theme in the product. This should be an element featured in my trailer, especially as a family situation may be involved. But medium/long shots are mostly used meaning this teaser trailer is unconventional in comparison to others.

Editing:

The teaser trailer has quite a fast pace to it which is seen with the many quick straight cuts used. This connotes a frantic sort of feeling to the text which links to theme of murder in the trailer. This could be relevant to the second half of my teaser trailer as I will be concentrating on the thriller theme especially, yet I do not think I will copy the pace as it is quite jittery and does not have the same effect that I would like to project to my audience.

CONCLUSION

As the teaser trailer is a drama-thriller, the same sub-genres that I plan to use in my teaser trailer, I feel as though it would be relevant to maybe translate some features that I’ve analysed in this product into my own work. However, because the style is quite different and some aspects are quite unconventional, I do not feel it would be suitable for my target audience and I want to convey a different sort of effect in my own teaser trailer.
