tie-baranalog sensor BAW
Analog position sensors
Even the strongest shaft willstretch as a result of hydraulicforces. Analog sensors BAWcan detect and signal thischange in length with a signalthat is proportional to the lengthchange and the clamping forceof the monitored tie-bars.
Tie-bar elongation in plasticinjection molding machines
is a side-effect that can haveuseful implications.
Tie-bar elongation is proportio-nal to the clamping force inmechanical toggle clampingsystems. Depending on themachine size and clampingforce, during ordinary operationthe actual extension can be upto 2 mm (0.08"). This relativelylarge mechanical movementleads to an interestingapplication for Balluff BAWanalog inductive displacementsensors. A high-resolutionanalog device for measuringsmall displacements of metaltargets, the Balluff BAW candetect the extention of the tie-bar in-process, providingcontinuous measurement of theclamping force without the needfor expensive instrumentation.
The Balluff BAW detects theelongation of the tie bar whenplaced in front of the tie-barsurface at the side of thestationary platen. With anoperating range of up to 5 mmit provides the change of the
length with a repeatability of±10 µm (0,0004”), which issufficient in most cases andgives a great cost-performanceratio. Since there is no need tomodify the tie-bars, installationis simple and universal for alldiameters.
The application helps to preventtie-bar overload, machine wearand protects the expensivemolds from severe damage.Besides possible damages, worn out bushings and supportsof the platens will result in lossof accuracy if the machine isoperated permanently withoverload.
The performance of themachine and the quality of themolded products will beimproved by continuous controlof the clamping force. Whileincreased mechanical stress is aresult of too high force, nonfilledcavities and flash appears whenthe force is less than calculated.
Using Balluff BAW to control thisimportant machine parameterrepresents a significant lowercost solution compared to thetraditional strain gaugetechnology which is used foradjustment and quality controlin the maintenance process.
Balluff BAW are available indifferent sizes and sensingdistances:
