Who would be the audience for your media product?

Evaluation question 4

An example of my audience is a student, George Cartwright from London. He currently works at Morrison's stacking shelves. George

loves his music and has especially taken a liking to hip/hop, particularly old or more 'classical' hip/hop. His favorite rap group of all time is Wu-Tang Clan, his other favored hip/hop artists include

Nas, Mos Def, MF Doom and Bishop Nehru. This exact music preference and style type fits the theme of my magazine perfectly

meaning George will be interested in what my magazine has on offer. My magazine is aimed at people 18 and older so George being

an 18 year old makes him a great example for the audience I am trying to reach out too. George would come under the 'Urban' tribe as he likes to wear clothes related to that style, and is also keen in

seeking out forgotten hip/hop tracks.

My main method of research for my audience was the Channel 4 website 'UK Tribes' and looked at the different generic groups of people that could potentially be

interested in my magazine. I found 'Urbans', the group that George falls into. George fits into this category well apart from one detail, 'Urbans' on UK Tribes are described

as going out to find new hip/hop artists and tracks, where as George, like I would expect many of my targeted audience, would rather find old, more 'classic' hip/hop

tracks and artists. George goes to as many hip/hop concerts as he can, although they are rare and usually in small venues so tickets are hard to get your hands on. I believe my targeted audience would also fit into the 'Stylers' Tribe, this is because Stylers are known for there partying and passion to look good. An urban upbringing assists this connection I made with my theme of magazine and this tribe. My magazine would

need to be either subscribed to online with the option for an online-based magazine or for a paper-back version to be sent out to them for a slightly inflated price. My

magazine would also be accessible in niche market shops, which is good for my target audience as it will give it a more authentic feeling having to go to a separate shop to

get the magazine.
