“I designed a 28-foot trailer-transportable sports cruiser boat, with more deck and cabin space than other designs in the same category, legally trailerable and large enough to accommodate a high-quality control system. Modelling included the creation of Class A (curvature continuous) surfaces for the hull as well as detailed and accu- rately dimensioned components for the exterior and interior. I then used CATIA to generate the files for CNC milling the hull, laser cutting the decking, electroplating the logo and 3D printing components.”

“For my project, I decided to start from a commentmade by an architect: Rotterdam is growing fast and will need new transport solutions. As the city expands, horizontal space becomes scarce, resulting in vertical growth. A new transport system is needed to facilitate journeys between these high-density areas. I designed this new vehicle to serve Rotterdam in the vertical plane and deliver passengers and goods via a ‘halfpipe’-type track. One of the immediate benefits is that vertical stations will help to save space.”

“For our final year mechanical engineering project atConcordia University, we designed and constructed a linear particle accelerator that can accelerate elec-trons to 65% of the speed of light. The accelerator reaches energy levels of 100 KV, and bends the path of the electrons with the use of an electromagnet. This project was completed in less than 220 days with a budget of $26,000 (fully funded by 22 sponsors).”

“For this team project, we studied and modeled afertilizer processing factory. This type of plant has some special features, because fertilizer is a very variable material. By defining and simulating a new process, we were able to propose a new factory layout as well as new machines. The improved factory is more efficient and its processed output more reliable.”

“We developed this project for our Product Engineer-ing Processes class. Our theme was ‘On The Go’ and we had just three months and $6,500 to com-plete our task: design an alpha prototype of a product that addresses a real customer need. Our final product was ‘Phil’ — an intelligent faucet attachment designed to automatically fill three-compartment sinks in busy commercial kitchens. Phil uses sonar to measure water height and auto-matically turns off when it reaches a predefined level, set by the user, thereby preventing overflow and freeing up kitchen staff to focus on more important tasks.”

“Stitch Family is an immersive 3D application I created for Laval Virtual 2012, a European event dedicated to virtual reality and converging technologies. The aim of the game is to disturb the Stitches, a monster family living in a sewing box. Players use real objects to move a virtual ball of wool or virtual thimble in the room, or hit the box to make virtual buttons drop down.”

“For this project, conducted at the Institute of Aero-space Engineering, I used CATIA to design an exact replica of one of the aircraft at Brno-Medlánky airfield. The plane was modelled using various CATIA modules: Generative Shape Design, Sketch Tracer and FreeStyle. It took 100 hours to complete, and I spent a lot of time in the hangar, taking pictures and measuring everything on the real plane.”

“I made an internal combustion engine with a basicsingle cylinder configuration, typically found in small motorcycles, dirt bikes and scooters, go-karts, radio controlled models and portable machinery. This image shows the different parts of the engine: crankshaft, bearings, camshaft, piston, valves and block. A kinematic animation has been produced. It features a transparent engine block so the movement of the engine’s internal components can be seen as the camera circles round.”

“This project is to determine how meniscal resectionmay affect joint contact pressure, using the finite element (FE) method. A three dimensional model of the knee was created from magnetic resonance images of a cadaveric limb (Hospital for Special Surgery, New York). The model was exported to Abaqus, where loading conditions to simulate physiological conditions were applied. Locations and values of forces and peak contact stresses predicted from the FE model corroborated with those measured during the corresponding in-vitro tests on the cadaveric knee.”

“The challenge of this project was to introduce VirtualCommissioning using only existing resources such as 3D models, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programs and robot programs. These were used to create a cell as similar as possible to the real one. The purpose of the production cell is to reinforce the side of a car model by adding a further four metal parts. The final model includes a welding robot, gripping robot, transportation line, clamping platform with sensors, clamps and pins, human-machine interface and operator.”

“In this project, I created a detailed model of a two-spool high-bypass turbofan engine with CATIA, using a few reference pictures. I didn’t use blueprints or plans, but freehanded the engine while studying several photos of similar engines. I also included as many details as possible and made the model as accurate as possible.”

“In a group of three students currently on the jointdiploma course in building engineering at UPV (Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain) and engineering at ENIM (École Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Metz, France), we designed the eNIM school’s building in CATIA V6. We then modeled the structure, features and teaching material to create a virtual tour experience. Virtual visitors use an avatar to ex-plore the floor where students spend much of their life: auditorium, cafe, three amphitheatres, lecture rooms, administration offices and workshops where practicals are held.”
