DATA SHEET
CA Data Center Infrastructure Management
Business challengesData centers are frequently challenged by capacity limitations. Power and cooling constraints limit the ability to deliver on new business requirements. Uptime and availability are lowered when power is not dependable. Service quality and SLAs are at risk. The lack of detailed insight into consumption leads to unnecessary costs.
Uptime and availability is at risk when power is not dependable. Systems fail due to power outages or other power-related faults. Agility is reduced when staff has limited insight into power and cooling in their data center. Systems experience downtime and SLAs are not met.
Capacity limitations for data center power, space and cooling. Staff doesn’t know which devices and systems are generating the load and it is not clear where spare capacity exists in the datacenter or where greater efficiency is possible. Expensive new data centers are built despite existing spare capacity, or IT is outsourced.
Increasing operational costs due to energy consumption. Increases in electricity bills with limited insight into the cause. If IT pays the bill, this substantially increases operational costs.
Differentiation among service providers and the provision of new and innovative services. Managed service providers often seek to create differentiation between their cloud and co-location services and those of their competitors. Energy is an area of innovation and differentiation, but traditional approaches to energy insight and energy chargeback are limited and labor-intensive.
Solution overviewCA DCIM is a web-based centralized solution for monitoring power, cooling and environmental factors across facilities and IT systems in the data center as well as managing the use of space and lifecycle of assets which make up the data center infrastructure. CA DCIM encompasses three critical areas:

Built on a proven and scalable platform, CA DCIM aggregates data from thousands of devices and hundreds of locations and display dashboards and trend charts to support smart decisions on improving data center efficiency.
With CA DCIM you can collect data from highly diverse devices and systems using SNMP or other protocols such as BACnet or Modbus and easily track assets within the data center and provide powerful 3D visualization.
Critical differentiatorsThe CA DCIM solution is comprised of CA ecoMeter and CA Visual Infrastructure. The combination of the two products allows for monitoring and management of power, space, and cooling data through all your data centers.
Critical differentiators include:
•Streamline data collection from multiple sources and devices supplied by a very wide range of vendors.
•Create standard and custom metrics such as Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) to benchmark the data center, facilities equipment and IT assets.
•Measure and analyze power load and consumption across multiple devices, systems, buildings and data centers. Help to determine areas of high and low
efficiency, spare and limited capacity, efficient and under-performing assets, consumption patterns, and waste.
•Decide where to place new racks by identifying where excess cooling and power are available, thereby continuing to efficiently manage energy and service costs.
•Identify problems and help reduce false alarms through intelligent alerting.
•Control both physical equipment and virtual environments, to help achieve greater savings.
•MSPs: Achieve service offering differentiation and enhance
competitiveness by reporting and charging back more easily on end-user energy consumption and power demand.

DATA SHEET
CA Visual Infrastructure
Business challengesData centers typically contain equipment from different vendors, including: IT systems such as servers, storage and mainframes; power equipment such as PDUs, UPSs and backup generators; cooling equipment, including CRAC units and air handlers, and building management systems. The challenges for data center, IT, and facility managers include:•Data centers often have insufficient space, power or cooling capacity to meet
operational limiting agility in the face of business needs.
•Poor visibility into source of power demand, where there is overloading and risk of failure or where there is spare capacity. This leads to downtime and loss of business service delivery.
•Space, power and cooling constraints limit the ability to deliver on new business requirements.
•Uptime and availability are lowered when power is not dependable.
•Service quality and service level agreements (SLAs) are at risk if data center efficiency declines.
•Lack of detailed insight into consumption leads to unnecessary costs.
Solution overviewCA Visual Infrastructure provides an integrated 3D interface to help users design and build racks located in the data centers. Using the library of developed stencils, users can recreate a representation of the actual racks and view both device and rack level data related to weight, power consumption, heat dissipation or available space. The powerful modeling tool will suggest rack locations and port assignments for power, network and fiber connections based on rules defined in the system.
Users can also generate what-if scenarios for outage analysis if a device fails. The power and network tree views allow users to understand the direct and indirect connections for a given device and show current alarm states. Users can also configure all power, network and storage interfaces and map those interfaces to the connected devices. With CA Visual Infrastructure users can also utilize a series of data center facility views called “floor plan Layer” to give the user a single holistic view of the data center to help enable better capacity management in the areas of space, power and cooling. CA Visual Infrastructure includes a historical data player within the data center floor plan view. The ability to view multiple layers within a facility as well as generate built-in capacity reports allows users to better manage capacity and eliminate waste within the data center. Through custom integration with a third party or with our standalone asset management features, users can document physical asset attributes and information and report on any physical asset in the system.
At a GlanceCA Visual Infrastructure is an integral component of the CA Data Center Infrastructure Management (CA DCIM) solution. It is an easy to use, 3D application designed to help data center and facility managers improve operational efficiencies and reduce cost through the effective use of real-time monitoring and resource management capabilities in areas such as space, power and cooling within all of their IT facilities. Data center information such as trending, alarms, and dashboards can also be easily accessed via mobile devices and is designed to integrate with a wide variety of 3rd party systems. With CA Visual Infrastructure, organizations can also perform inventory and asset discovery within their data centers, along with capacity and scenario planning.
Key benefits/results
• Helps reduce costs with detailed 3D visibility into space and power utilization, allowing for smart, real-time decision making.
• Improves management of, and planning for, resources, maintenance activities and work dispatch.
• Enables capacity management for more effective use of data center infrastructure and data center planning.

Business challenges
Traditional data center infrastructure management (DCIM) approaches have relied on
multiple systems from a variety of suppliers to maintain the integrity of the data center.
While this approach may have met basic requirements, it hasn’t been effi cient, whether
from the standpoint of resource usage or administration. Further, given IT’s need to support
increased demand for business services, this approach is increasingly unsustainable.
Organizations need better integration of IT and infrastructure management, so they can
more effectively govern these assets. IT and facility teams need to be able to seamlessly
integrate critical data from multiple measurement systems into one system of record.
How do IT teams gain a single view into the demand and capacity requirements across all
their data centers?
How do they more effectively understand usage, predict trends and ensure they effectively
prepare for future energy and cooling requirements?
Solution overview
CA Nimsoft ecoMeter captures real-time data from IT and building infrastructure elements
to provide you and your customers with a clear and comprehensive picture of power, cooling
and energy usage. With CA Nimsoft ecoMeter, you can access this comprehensive data
