PRESENTED BY, SOMASHEKARA.H.E.
CONTENTS• INTRODUCTION• CLASSIFICATION• ORDER-SPOROBOLOMYCETALES• ORDER-CRYPTOCOCCALES• CONCLUSION• REFERENCE
INTRODUCTIONBLASTOMYCETES• It is an arbitary taxon for the asporogenous
yeasts, which do not produce asco or basidiospores.
• Exist as budding cells or Pseudomycelium• Reproduce by budding or fission.• Most of the members are saprobes occuring
on flowers, leaves, bark, wood.• Some of them occur on fresh and sea water.• Some associated with plant disease like
powdery mildews, rusts and smuts.
CLASSIFICATIONDIVISION-EUMYCOTASUB DIVISION-DEUTEROMYCOTACLASS-BLASTOMYCETES The class Blastomycetes is divided into two
orders1.Sporobolomycetales2.Cryptococcales
ORDER-SPOROBOLOMYCETALESIt contains single family
Sporobolomycetaceae with Four genera. 1.Sporobolomyces. 2.Bullera 3.Itersonilia 4.Tilletiopsis• These grow abundantly as saprophytes on
sugary surfaces of ripe fruits, leaves etc.
Bullera hoabinhensis
Itersonilia perplexans Tilletiopsis species
Sporobolomyces roseus
SPOROBOLOMYCESThe genus Sporobolomyces
contains seven species.
It grow saprophytically on ripe fruits, senescent leaves etc.
S.roseus can be cultured very easily by placing senescent grass leaf over nutrient agar medium.
Sporobolomyces roseus
ORDER- CRYPTOCOCCALES It consists of 15 genera in a single family
Cryptococcaceae.
The cryptococcales are primarily saprobic some of the species are pathogenic to animals and humans.
The well known genera of the family are 1.Cryptococcus 2.Candida 3.Malassezia 4.Trichosporon 5.Rhodotorula
CRYPTOCOCCUS• The genus Cryptococcus contains 17
species.• Widely distributed in soil and on decaying
plant material.• Few are pathogenic to man and animal.• It is a non filamentous growth.
Cryptococcous neoformans cell
Cryptococcous neoformans
CANDIDAThe genus Candida was esected
by Beskhout in 1923.Candida are yeast like
organinsms with sdtrong Mycelial or Pseudomycelial growth and multilateral budding.
Members are isolated from soil plant and animal.
Some of the candida are pathogenic to man and animal.
C.utilis is an important source of proteins. Candida
utilius
RHODOTORULAIt contains 9 species. It is a single celled yeast like fungus.Species live on the land and in the ocean. It has characteristic pink or yellow or red
color in the colony due to prescence of carotenoid pigments.
Rhodotorula glutinis Rhodotorula pacifica
TRICHOSPORONIt is widely distributed fungus, common in
soil.Pseudomycelium and true mycelium are
found abundantly.T.beigelii is responsible for white piedra of
man and horse in regions of Europe, Asia, South america.
Trichosporon beigelii Trichosporon cutaneum
MALASSEZIAIt is a small genus with one or two species.
M.furfur is responsible for pityrisasis which is a superficial skin disease of man.
Malassezia furfur
Malassezia furfur
CONCLUSION Class - Blastomycetes is an imperfect fungi which
do not produce asco or basidiospores. They reproduce by budding or fission.
These are pathogenic to man and animals.
