Page 13: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

• “Convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8)

• “Bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16)

• Be our Helper (John 14:16) • “Guide you into all truth” (John 16:13) • Gift-giver of spiritual gifts (1st Corinthians 12)• Produce spiritual fruit in our lives: love, joy,

How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?

Page 15: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Three different levels

1. Inside

2. Fill

3. Overflow

Page 16: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit comes into people who believe in Jesus, like water coming into a cup

1. Inside

Page 17: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Indwelling of Spirit is for all believers

1. Inside

Page 18: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit is given at salvation

1. Inside

Page 19: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Salvation is “The spiritual, eternal deliverance which God immediately grants to those who accept His conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.”

1. Inside

Page 20: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Salvation is available in Jesus alone (John 14:6; Acts 4:12), and is dependant on God alone for provision, assurance, and security.

Page 21: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit remains in you permanently

1. Inside

Page 22: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

1. Inside

• Some people ask, “What about people who stop believing in Jesus and end up going against Jesus?”– Answer is probably that they never had Holy

Spirit in them to begin with because they never believed in Jesus to begin with

• Only you and God know if you have Holy Spirit inside you to begin with (if you truly believe in Jesus to begin with)

Page 23: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

2. Fill

Holy Spirit fills up in people who obey God, like water filling up a cup

Page 24: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

2. Fill

Only our obedience to God's commands allows the Spirit freedom to work within us

Page 25: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

2. Fill

However…

Page 26: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

2. Fill

However…

Page 27: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

2. Fill

However…

The Holy Spirit is God, and cannot be in the same place where sin is

Page 28: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

2. Fill

Sin separates us from the filling of the Holy Spirit

Page 29: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

2. Fill

• Only our obedience to God's commands allows the Spirit freedom to work within us

• Sin separates us from the filling of the Holy Spirit

Page 31: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

3. Overflow

• Jesus said, “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water”

Page 32: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

3. Overflow

• The Holy Spirit’s work flows out of us when we are filled, like water overflowing a cup already full of water

Page 33: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

3. Overflow

• Others around us receive the benefit of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives

Page 34: Bible Study Slideshow: The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Conclude: We as believers should obey God to be filled such that we

overflow with the Holy Spirit
