Two comings of Jesus (the Messiah)

• 1st coming– In humiliation– Die on the cross– Time: About 2,000 years ago

• 2nd coming– In glory– Establish the kingdom of God– Time: Nobody knows, but look forward to it!

Page 33: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

Before 1st coming of Jesus…

• John the Baptist represents Elijah• Luke 1

– 13 But the angel said to [Zacharias], “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John…

– 17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah… to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

• Note: He is not Elijah, he only represents Elijah

Page 34: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

Before 2nd coming of Jesus…

• Elijah will come back• Malachi 4

– 5 "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. 6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."

• However, this time he will die after he has finished his duty

Page 38: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

• Jesus loves everybody, especially the little children

• They are VERY IMPORTANT to Jesus

• So important, that Jesus said…

Page 39: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

Matthew 18:6

• “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

Page 40: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

Passed away due to leukemia

Page 51: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

Leukemia is a cancer of the blood, or bone marrow

Page 52: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

He suffered through such a terrible condition

Page 53: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

He was only 4 ½ years old

Page 54: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

But through it all, it seems like he understood…

Page 56: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

• We must receive the kingdom of God as little children

Page 57: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

• Does NOT mean we have to BE children in order to believe in Jesus

Page 58: Bible Lesson Slideshow: "The Transfiguration" and "Jesus and the Children"

• Means we have to be LIKE children and submit to Jesus with humility just like children should submit to their parents– Humility means being

humble, the opposite of being proud
