The Australian flag

• In 1901, the Commonwealth of Australia was formed. Before 1901, Australia used Britain's flag, the union jack. There was a competition to decide how the Australian flag will look like.

• In the top left corner, it has the union jack. This shows that Australia is part of the British commonwealth. Around the union jack, there are six, white stars. The six stars represent the six states.
