Characterization is the process by which
the author reveals the personality of a
character.
• Direct characterization: tells the reader what the
personality of the character is.
Example: Ms. Hinks is a very caring person.
• Indirect characterization: shows details that reveal
the personality of a character.
Speech, Thoughts, Effect on others, Actions, Looks
Example: Ms. Hinks likes to bake cookies for her students.
